twist on an old problem

Can anyone tell me where I can get a suitable lead for my laptop power supply?

Now before anyone asks, I don't need it as a result of it being American, but the plug seems to have died on me and now I need another one. I'm pretty sure that the lead from the laptop to the power adaptor isn't the problem as the brick isn't heating up like it normally would when plugged in (so it's not like the power is getting to there and not on to the machine itself), so I figure the plug going from the adaptor to the wall is the problem. The thing is, the end going from the adaptor isn't like a regular 2 holed power lead like on a PC, instead it has three, so I'm not sure if these are easy to come by. Anyone know where to look, or even the proper name for them so I can do a search?
(it's a hp compaq laptop, just incase anyone has one and can describe it better)

    thanks,

    flogen

Try removing the fuse and replacing it (you probably need no more than a screwdriver for this).

Alternatively, cut the power chord (not while plugged in....just in case you're inclined to...) just before the plug and attach it to another spare plug that you have lying around. Check that the fuse is a suitably low ampage rating, else you may fry your laptop one day far into the future.

Fair play Dman. Nice offer. The above might save you both some effort.

Yeah, tried all of the above and nothing, sadly.

It's probably not the cable so. Sounds like the adapter box is probably fecked. Sorry for your troubles.

Still wont do any harm to check DMan's cable, but I'd start looking around for a replacement.
