Well I'm heading down to one of the Irish pubs in a few minutes(after the normal pit-stop at McDonalds of course) to see my first match of the new season, the excitment.

Someone here in work told me that Arsenel are full of French players now, I told him that they sold two, he told me that they bought ten, hmmm...

So, what do ya think will be the result, I have absolutely no idea since I've heard nothing about the preseasons, should be interesting anyway.

OK as an Arsenal Fan I'm delighted we beat the Pool at last (no Robbie Fowler playing) but from the highlights I saw the referee lost the plot totally. The McAllister Sending off well could be justified but I reakon that Gary was trying to tackle and just got it badly wrong, there was no intent. But the Viera sending off was a disgrace, he got the ball in a fair tackle and gets sent off. As for the Hamann one the look on Holliers faces sums it up he was nearly laughing at the ref in disbelief. If this is an indication of the standard of refereeing for the coming season I hope all the teams have massive squads.

Well this means Viera will be banned for probally 6 games now, bah!!!

Viera is a thug - getting sent off in the first two games of the season, tsk what would his dear old mum think smile.gif

I beleive he only has another red card or two to go to equal Vinnie Jone's record of sendings-off for one club.

    Castor,

Did you actually see the tackle he got sent off for. He won the ball clearly, if anyone was fouling it was Hamann on him and Viera then gets sent off. That Ref should never be in charge of Premiership match again.

Also if look at both Vieras sendings off and then compare it to Roy Keanes in the Charity Shield which one had the more intent in it clearly Keanes he tried to injure that Chelsea player. Whos the bigger thug here !!!!!

True the ref should never ref a match again

firstly well this is either the linesman/referees fault (didnt see whole match)
arsenal score from a corner which
    should have been a goal-kick
then Barmby gets mauled by two players in the box and no penalty awarded and McCallister gets sent off for nothing

and then hamann gets sent off for pullin someones shirt like ffs

and yes viera shouldnt have been sent off either as he won the ball....
all in all the ref was the star of the game

Actually with Keane their was prolly no real intent either. I doubt he thought to himself : "I'm going to injure this Chelsea player" He just lost his rag and lashed out in frustration.

I didn't see the Viera tackle but refs are awful. With the amount of money in the game now it's ridiculous they don't have help. Get the 4th official to sit on the sideline, watch the match on Sky Sports extra and use Sky Digital's replay feature to view the incident. They don't even need a wrist-watch TV or even a radio - he can shout it to him ffs!

What's the excuse they give for not implementing it? "It would slow down the game." Ballocks! Even on normal TV you see a replay 2 or 3 times before a free kick is taken. Surely they could take ten seconds to look at the evidence before ruining the game by sending someone off.
