    Hi,

does anyone know if Sky + needs to be kept connected to a live phone line??

I know with normal sky you just need it connected for the 1st week or so and then it can be disconnected.

If anyone can shed any light on sky+ I'd appreciate it!!

    Cheers

Why is it required with multiroom

I am having SKY + with multiroom installed Monday week (28th)

I already have SKY with Multiroom, so this is the 3rd sub.

My expectation was that I needed to have the SKY + box plus one other box connected?

I dont know why this is either - have SKY + for a while know - its great - you need a normal box and the sky plus box - double connection from the dish.

You have 2 boxes on the same subscription. Its to prevent a box from moving to another house, basically.

Nope you gotta have the main sub box (sky+ in your case) plus all other boxes with a multiroom subscription connected to the same phone line at all times. The reason for this, as DMC said, is to stop you going splits on subs with your friends or having boxes in different houses at the same time.

so just to have it clear I dont need to have a constant phone connection with just Sky+ but if I have multi-room then I would need the connection 24 x 7!

For multiroom, loss of service to both boxes.

How does Multiroom work with an FTV card? (ie: is it safe to unplug the box from the phone say for maybe up to 12 hours - allowing for the card to reactivate if its been off a while - or should I be thinking of a third box? (seems a bit excessive just to watch the odd thing on C5)

    Thanks! :)

in my opinion, sky cannot force you to have your digibox(es) connected under certain circumstances, such as during lightening storms, or when you are on holidays, or away from the house for long periods during the day (if both partners work).

there is a very real possibility of lightening getting through, and blowing the sh1t out of digi-box, etc, etc.

if you are away, you should take precautions to safeguard your home and equipment, as you may be obliged to do under your Home Insurance policy.

also, if you are on the net using a dial-up connection, equipment connected, such as digibox, could degrade your connection.

The phone connection to my sky+ box is not the best and so I have lost the line without my knowlege. On each occation I have had a letter from sky stating that there was no connection and if I didnt correct the fault then they will cancel the cards for the + box and my multi room sub.
I think they will allow you two or three letters before they cut you off though.
