Hey im doing a survey to see how the distance from masts effects the speed for IBB.

    So can you please post:

    Mast:
    Area (pinpoing eastates if possiable):
    Average DL speeds:
    Pings to:

    www.boards.ie

I'm sure you'll find that IBB has set a minimum signal strength requirement that ensures that you'll get full speed to the mast.

    Yeah the Min is 20%

I had a line test about 18months ago and a tree blocks the rte mast and the guy said i was too far from three rock even though im in goatstown (well inside the coverage map for v1.3 and v1.2 http://www.irishbroadband.ie/htmdocs/coverage_maps/3_Rock.jpg ) and can see the mast from the bedroom. As far as i can see they are using new equipment as was trying to figure out if im in range now (and i dont want to call them out again unless i think i can get it [wasting my and their time])

How do you know what your connection signal is?

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,659 ✭✭✭PowerHouseDan

I was talkin to them about it. they said the Min to make it worthwhile installing it is 20% i was there when they were testing it and they said it was 36%

I would say that number is SNR, Signal Noise Ratio, and it's not a percentage, it's in dB. The radio provides that info in realtime so you can just call up support and get them to check it. Whenever I have a problem I ask what it is. It's in the 30's for me, can't remember exactly.
