    Whats this I hear???

Text "Thanks" to 51101 to receive 180 free texters.

    20 free per month.

This is an O2 promotion - but it seems to work across the board with 085 and 087 phones.

    Nice One!

you are probably selling you number to any amount of companies who will bombard you with "valentines chocolates for your loved one" type messages.

This is very misleading, or even dubious, Since the call to 51101 is not free, there is a charge for the "free texters".

"51101" belongs to "Mobileway" and not O2, sounds like a scam...

I've heard this going around college too.

Sounds a bit dodgy to me though.

There is another thred somewhere else, and it seems to be genuine. Someone appearantly called O2, and they confirmed it.

By the way, this number is also officially listed on the O2 Website.

yeah, but my friend is saying she's meteor and she tried it and it works. Wouldnt this make it slightly dodgy. THought it was only a o2 promo.

{edit} While were talking promo's,anyone else get messages from Bondai about free drinks blah blah. They dont show their number so you cant tell them to piss off. Same with the Ivy. There must be something that can be done about this.

Meteor piggyback on O2's network for most of the country, do they not?

Still sounds like an error if it is an offical O2 number, but might explain it.

So, just to clarify: Did anyone actually sign up for this and was/is there any undesirable side effects? (eg mass promotion texts etc), and when did you sign up?

    On a side note:

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,280 ✭✭✭jArgHA

is this offer for o2 speakeasy or o2 billed? do you know if it's still available or was it a valentine's day thingy?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,632 ✭✭✭✭okidoki987

I'm a bill O2 but spend bugger all and it worked for me yesterday.
I'd say they have a maximum number of people and when it reaches that
    they pull it!

  • nope and nope. sorry

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,423 ✭✭✭tinkerbell

I thought it said to reply THANKS before 21st February. So it must still be running then? But I'm not sure if that was the date, I think it was.

I have mentioned this before, that this was orignally just supposed to be targeted at high volume users.
My source on the inside has let me know that O2 have now pulled this campaign (a lot of red faces there at the mo :p ).
However, everyone who applied will probably have their texts added on.
Over 3 times the amount of expected respondants replied... thats when O2 twigged something was wrong.
Fair play to anyone who chanced it... looks like it'll pay off! :D

hasn't put the 20 free texts on yet. That's why it still cost you. There should've been a date that they go on by.

Oh no, I realise this, I was just countering the post by someone who was claiming the sms you sent would cost you a fortune :)
