Do the even try and fix my guitar? Has anyone else had problems. My guitar has been broken for two years and i have dropped it into Perfect Pitch (Wicklow St.) and Waltons (Georges St.) and although they said they did a "repair" they simply did not. has anyone else had this repairs problem? What do i do now?

Check the Instrument resources sticky, there's a number for Derrick Nelson, he will fix it.

As for the shop thing, what was the problem with the guitar then and what is the situation with it now?

    Thanks for the suggestions.

It's an epiphone Les paul. I tune all the strings open with a tuner. It's fine.

However, if i fret the 3rd string anywhere, it will be out of tune

For example, open G chord, sounds perfect. open A chord, the A note (2nd fret, 3rd string) will be out of tune. This works if i tune the A note first, then the open G will be off. This is SO frustrating. Neither perfect pitch or Waltons have fixed it.

Sounds like your intonation is out. Do me a favour. Tune your guitar. Play the third string at the 12th fret (fretted or harmonic, doesn't matter). Read the note on the tuner. It should be the same note as the string when it's open.

See the Instrument Resoources sticky and read up on intonation. This is something you'll be able to do yourself.

The 12th fret harmonic will still sound as an a G (thats if the string is tuned to G for instance) but simply an octave higher. The intonation settigns at the bridge are only in relation to scale lenght which effects the pitch of the 12th fret fretted note and not the harmonic at the 12th. The harmonic will always read as an octave up from the open string's pitch.

[EDIT] Actually, if the intonation is THAT bad on the guitar it may not actually be just the brigde that needs adjusting. Check the depth of the nut slot for the 3rd string as well as checking the bridge settings. Getting a set of new strings would also be a good idea. Make sure to get the same guage or otherwise a truss rod adjustment may have to be made to compensate for the relatvie difference in string tension.

Well, it depends how accurate you are with your harmonics. I find it's easier to get close with the harmonic and then finish it with the fretted note. The problem with the fretted note is the pressure you put on the string. Fret too hard and your intonation is gonna be out still.

Sorry.. I'm not understanding you at all. I know what you are saying about the pressure on the fretted notes but the bit about starting with a harmonic and finishing with a fretted 12th fret note just loses me.

    Tune the string to pitch.
Play the harmonic at the twelfth
Adjust the intonation as close as possible
Retune to pitch and play the twelfth
    Readjust intonation if necessary.

I do things arse ways but they work :D

OK.... What do you mean by step 3? What are you adjusting in relation to what you've heard from the 12th fret harmonic? Its going to be an octave up from the open string you've just tuned. As close as possible to what? The whole thing involves playing the 12th fret harmonic then noting the difference between that and the 12th fret fretted note. Then you adjust the saddles to remove this difference beetween them.

Ya know, you're right there. It doesn't make an ounce of sense. But it still seems to work for me

Funny considering I'm gonna be picking up any guitar work a local shop can't do... :)

Check out http://www.jemsite.com for setups i know u got a LP and it has a different bridge, But on the Birdge the saddles... Theres a Little Screw that moves the saddle

Move it forward or back depending on what u need for the intonation... Its a pain in the arse to explain in writing, If u take it into musician or somethin they're usually decent with stuff like this.....

+ head into dorans 2night, its gona be somethin very special.. lol, trust me
