Does anyone know of a free program to convert divx avi files to dvd format? I've found a few but they leave a "watermark", i.e. an ad for their site, on every frame. Or failing that a splitter. Then nero can convert them to vcd. I found a splitter that handily puts the sound ten seconds behind the video. It's:

    no good

Use DVD Santa (free Trial Version). That should change it to DVD files and it will also burn it.

hey does that santa leave the size as is, becuase i tried one and at the end of the conversion the movie was 3.7 gb.
    so 1 divx = 1 dvd

    crappy.

Have a look for Cucusoft DVD Author - MPEG to VOB Converter 1.06 on this link. It is freeware, unlike the rest of the software. It does increase the size of the movie a fair bit.

I think Nero 6 will do it also.

How long (in time) is the movie?

As it happens came across this piece of software last few days have a look here , where download link is available as well as user comments http://www.videohelp.com/tools?tool=vso_DivXtoDVD .

From what i see this makes one avi file fit on a dvd in less than 2 gigs therefore you may be able to fit 2 files/movies on one dvd in 'batch mode' if that's what you are trying to do . If you have a 'copy' of CopyToDvd then this will also burn the files straight onto dvd for you if you so wish.

The best thing about this is that it is absolutely free with no strings attached !

I've tried that before with nero and it worked nicely the first few times, but then after a while it started giving me the end product upside down!!! after a bit of reading i found that this is due to the xvid codec interacting badly with nero, give it a go with nero ultra, that should do it and as far as i know it will increase size by about 1.5 (don't quote me on that though, i'm guessing as i was using a 500 meg file and it burned perfectly onto a 700 meg CD)

Let's know how you get on

    normal, average length.
    1.30 hrs maybe.

The problem with AVI->VOB conversion is that even though the filesize increases you'll still lose a massive amount of quality the smaller you try to make it.

With Nero, the largest amount of video I managed to fit on one disc was about 5 1/2 hours. The reduction in quality made me wonder why I'd bothered.
You're better off just buying a DivX/DVD player, one of the best investments I've made in a good while.

Agreed. It's never failed me (well ok once then but that was because I didn't have the right codec installed). Free and automatically calls DVD-Decrypter to author/burn the disc for you as well.
