If you like you're games, I'm quite sure you'd be hard pressed to spec a better machine than this (ignoring the CRT and speakers of course):
    http://www.compshopper.co.uk/shopper/reviews/68456/packard-bell-ipower-sli.html
I read the review of it in computer shopper mag and it gets a score of almost 20K in 3DMark03

dont see why they're complaining bout the crt, it is a gamers machine after all and gamers generally prefer crt for their better performance over lcd/tft

Not unless you have a passion for paying through the nose for -often- inferior goods.

    well i don't know what rig i'd pick but i know it wouldn't start with a P.

I'd ring Alienware, and ask them what 3000euro would get me.

Also, why would i want the 2 graphics cards running at 50% each? i'd want them up at 100% each.

Okay, the tower looks cack, but if I was a hardcore gamer, I wouldn't want to be staring at a CRT.

Each card is working at 100%. But they share the load between them each time something needs to be rendered. So each does 50% of the work.

    eehhh what?

"hardcore" gamers prefer CRT monitors. if you look at the professional side of CS the likes of the old sk.swe (NiP) they wouldn't go near a LCD monitor as for the refresh rate and native resolution. if you went to a professional gaming event like the cpl i doubt you'd see many LCD monitors around.

also in respect to alien ware you'll probaly only get an alienware tshirt and a 64mb pen drive for 3000 judging by the prices of their other stock

Not for performance, but because they look cool.

Okay, maybe not Alienware, but im sure if you shopped around, you could get a good deal. Komplett is the best around for parts.

When it comes to the LCD/CRT debate there is no 'Best' just preference. Some folks find it better to have less eye strain for longer game sessions, some prefer to avoid even trace ghosting instead. I use an LCD, have for 3 years now - a lowly 20ms one at that, and I've hit #1 on the Global Ut2k4 ONS rankings a few times (not blowing my own horn just illustrating a point).

Ive got a 24" Sony FW900 Widescreen, hand on heart probably the best CRT monitor ever made. The reason everyone doesnt have one is the $3k RRP...
However, several of PCs around me have had and currently use TFTs, recently a BenQ 12ms job and I would have no problem switching over. Dare I say the pixel perfect geometry and clarity of that DVI TFT screen even temp me to swap. However, if I did go TFT, it would probably be for Dells 20" Widescreen (assuming the manufacturing problems are now worked out).

TFTs got a bad name around the alledged hardcore gamers 4yrs ago when they were in their infancy (colour problems, no DVI connections, response rate etc). Morons like running down "new" things. "Sure CRT has been around 80yrs, its grand.."

Modern TFTs are great for gaming.. and CRTs are relegated for poor people. Which is why the mag rightfully critcised the use of such an ugly old CRT in a otherwise top end PC.

Plus, the best TV's have been comfirmed as CRT'S, better lighting, colour, sharpness etc.

Really? "Confirmed" eh? By who exactly?

Ive had top end CRT, Plasma and now LCD Front Projection based TV units. The bulb went in the PJ, so Im looking at a standard CRT TV now.. the 50Hz flicker is woeful (and I dont find alleged 100Hz TVs much better). I cant see how you could say CRT TVs are the best unless you have never actually seen the alternatives.

CRT is a legacy technology on its last legs..
