my god they've gone up i know you said that had but blimey, I took 20e out of bank link and went to get a taxi home,, to bayside from town... back in the days of punts it would cost me 14punts then euros came and it was 17e on a good night, now last night 24e came up on the meter??? I had some change in my pocket but strangley enough the taxi man only asked me for 20e ? they often round down when asking for money, i was confused as to why he only asked for 20e I have gotten two taxis since the beginning of the year or whenever the date for fare raises was but both guys hadn't got their meter changed over...

strictly _only_ nightlinks from now on paul

yerman said that now there were too many taxis and fares had to rise to keep all the drivers in work???

Sometimes taxi drivers who have made a slightly longer journey than the should have might make an adjustment on the fare.

I've noticed many a driver rounding down to the nearest euro. Note the fare schedule is a maximum.

I got a taxi not so long ago that was to go from Finglas to Harolds X, stopping at Parkgate St. There a 3 in of us, all fairly drunk. The taxi driver obviously decided to take advantage of this fact. However, I wasn't drunk enough not to notice the detour that he was taking us on. To cut a long story short, I argued with him and got out of the taxi in Parkgate St, partly because I was angry, and also 'cause I was the only one going on to HC, and didn't feel comfortable staying in that taxi(he was fairly pissed off).
I caught another taxi almost straight away, and mentioned to the dirver what happened. The other driver seemed genuinely annoyed and gave me some great advice. He said that all taxis now have one of those automatic receipt printers, and if you have some complaint about the trip you've taken, ask for one, the driver is obliged to give you one, because the reciept has all the trip details, times, taxi number, reg etc. Then bring it to the carriage office and make a complaint.

Good advice, if you think you've been had always get a printed receipt!

As a driver it really annoys me when i read about people being ripped off or drivers being bad mannered, when i pick someone up i ask them what's the best way to go if it is not going far, most people know where they are going and usually they know a quicker route with local knowledge.
