    It's a volvo p1900.

Unpopular and correspondingly rare fibreglass jobbie.

Excellent alastair! Guess I've been seriously underestimating some of the car nuts in here :D

Because that was seemingly too easy...let's give you another one...

    It's a soviet Zil limo.

I was in the soviet union back in the 80's and there were still a fair few of (slightly later versions of) these floating around.

(the volvo was easy for me - I have a 1800ES)

Is that a 'Bond Motor Company' car ?

i.e. they made the Bond Bug.

    ................actually, scratch that, it's LHD.

    DKW perchance ?

    Silvera.

Has me stumped, but it looks german and fibreglass, possibly with a small engine. It's not some auto union or DKW or something?

This is awful. I stumbled upon this car on Friday, while unsuccessfully looking for BrianD3's Monteverdi. Do I remember what it was or can I find it again - errr, no :o

you're reasonably close alastair, but the car is strictly speaking not German (although most parts would be a from a well know German car manufacturer (the headlights are the giveway)) and yes, it would have a smallish engine.

Perhaps a bit of the history behind the car might jog the memory:

The maker of this car started developing a Sports car during WW2 together with another fellow countryman engineer, who decided to cut away from the project, move to Stuttgart and the rest is history for that other person with the famous name Ferdinand Porsche. The other guy then decided to go at it alone and made a series of these sports cars just after the war, but unfortunately didn't become as successful as his earlier companion.

    Is it a Steyr (Austrian)

I think it is based on your hints and the Porsche connection. But I couldn't tell you what model it is, and cannot find a pic on google images.

I think this has been the toughest challenge posted so far :)

I think it looks like a Cisitalia 202. I read somewhere that Erwin Komenda worked on that project, although the picture has a smaller grill

    no cigars yet...

not a Cisitalia, nor a Steyr, but at least the country is right: Austria
(which is also the birth country of our dear friend Ferdinand P.)

Does that mean that the company used to race in Formula 1?

I think I may have it. Is it a "Veritas".

If it's not, then I give up :)

Sorry Brian, I don't think it's a Veritas, as much as I want someone to get this one. When I googled Veritas all the cars had indicators under their headlights, this one has them further out on the wings.

This one is seriously wrecking my head.

In any case, I thought Veritas was Austrian but now I think it's German. Tis a serious head wrecker alright :)

    Well done Unkel !!

my mystery cars were being guessed so quickly, thought I'd make it a bit more difficult, so it was good to be able to baffle some of the car nuts, but I am genuinely impressed with the knowledge of all the participants :)

Well done to the excellent suggestions.

I guess Google is great for these kind of things ;)

Apologies Squirrel for ignoring your prompt. It wasn't on purpose!

No the company wasn't in Formula 1. Also ignore my previous comment. I did not come across the car before as I thought I did. I don't intend to search the interweb as frantically ever again as I did to find this mystery car though :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,376 ✭✭✭Squirrel

Constantly searching did get annoying, no hassle about the prompt, at least someone got the car.
