Am I alone in thinking Belfort was ripped off. Home town decision or what?
But UFC seems rife with that if the foreign guys doesn't get the KO or submission then the yank always seems to win.

the other night I saw an old one on Bravo some MMA guys Mike something (used to be middleweight champ) fighting some brazilian bjj guy.
Brazilian guy dominated - but failed to submit and guess what unanimous decision to the american.
Sucks. UFC is all aimed at crowd entertainment and not fighting.
    sucks again.

The decision comes down to who won the first round. I gave it to belfort but it was close.

I would have given it to Tito.

Round 1 & 2 were close, but Belfort gassed in the third. How anyone at that level of competition can gas is just plain ridiculous IMO. They're professional athletes dedicated to this job. They should sort out their cardio big time!

    Peace and Love Y'All,
    Colm

    Yeah bad call

Vitor looked like a major wimp in that 3rd round, looked like he was completely wrecked and didn't want to be there, Tito should have totally taken him out. But the fact is he didn't, and round 1 and 2 were Vitors.

the worst thing about all of this (imo) is it does nothing for the ufc lh division - it was revolved around 4 people for the last 2 years - while in short term they are all names that are recognisable to the 'meat head' population it compounds the problem with this division and the ufc in general - the same logic that pushed the likes of baroni on us while refusing to sanction the middle weight title until they can erase lindland out of the picture because he is not seen as 'marketable' - the same logic that pushed this fight - which meant nothing over 2 title fights - ufc is going backwards in so many ways - and this pushing of pro-wrestling style product will be their undoing

There was certainly a wwe type feel to the main event which was not even a belt event, however I believe UFC 51 had the second highest ratings ever for UFC and unfortunately Tito Ortiz seems to be a draw. There is a post fight interview with the president of the UFC Dana White at www.sherdog.com.

As much as I hate to say i thought Ortiz winning was a fair result, i felt he was the more aggressive fighter and towards the end Belfort looked disinterested and knackered. Ortiz seemed to want the victory more , interestingly in that interview Dana White also gave the fight to Ortiz.

Posting this here as there is a no-spoilers sentiment on the original UFC 51 thread! Just posted an abbreviation of my predictions (bold) followed by the actual result.
Tito Ortiz vs. Vitor Belfort, Ortiz yep!

Tim Sylvia vs. Andre Arlovski Arlovski KO R3: Great job by Arlovski, knocked him down then submitted him. Looking forward to him tangling with Mir.

Evan Tanner vs. David Terrell - Tanner by decision: Tanner won by strikes, terrell showed a G'n'p defence almost worse than mine!

Pete Sell vs. Phil Baroni - Baroni KO R1: Stupid baroni getting tired! Only for him I had a clean sweep he got submitted in the third.

David Loiseau vs. Joe Riggs - I say Loiseau by Dec : Loiseau by TKO

James Irvin vs. Mike Kyle - Kyle : Kyle by KO

Justin Eilers vs. Paul Buentello Eilers KO R1: I was out by a round

Nick Diaz vs. Drew Fickett - Diaz KO R2: out by a round again it happened in the first

Karo Parisyan vs. Chris Lytle - Parisyan winning by Sub in Round 3: got the winner but it went to a dec.

    Mark,

Its not like you to be so sloppy with your typing ;) !

I think you meant to say

"Looking forward to him mangling Mir!"

Well its not a foregone conclusion exactly, though I do think that Arlovski will win, if Mir hasn't corrected his conditioning issues, he will get hurt real bad. On the other hand Mir is always dangerous on the ground, might be a decent fight.

    I'd recommend Rodney King's DVD's for MMA/Gloveless Striking.

the other night I saw Tanner v Baroni on bravo and barnoi was carp...real crap.
I like tanner but teh fact he couldn't put away baroni that night looked bad for him.
I wish they'd stop pushing these characters on us. The previous posts were right it's becoming like WWE.

to be fair to tanner - he realised that there was a hole in his game - ie lasck of any real stand up skills and has done a lot to address this in the time frame given - he clearly outboxed baroni in their rematch and was getting the better of lawler striking
