Swollen Testicale Problems (Extreme Pain)

** Mod- if this is not the right place for this thread- please feel free to move it **

I had this awful cramp in my left side on Sunday and it lasted for 3 hours. I thought it was my stomach, but that night I was changing my pants and discovered my left testicale had swollen the size of a tomato! I was terrified, so I went to my doctor on Monday. He told me I had an infection and sent me to A&E. I was checked over by two doctors there and I was prescribed Medication, I got'''Augmentin-DUO'', ''By Mycin'' and a painkiller known as ''Distalgesic'' I am on these since Tuesday and I feel no better. The pain killers are crap as I can't even walk around the place as the pain is so bad. My testicale has now turned red and is still very swollen. My sister has advised me to go back and get stronger tablets to help kill the pain. Does anybody have any suggestions or advice? Thanks

Ok, usually such medical problems on boards are not really allowed, because of the fact that this site is not here as a medical advice website, with doctors waiting to answer your question. THe best advise is to see another doctor, get a second opinion.

One suggestion is, I know a guy who got a Twisted Testical[I Forgotten the medical term], ended in it been swollen etc.. suggest that to the doc maybe?

But to be honest, boards is not the best place to ask advice on such a medical topic that could very well be serious.

Yeah, you've been prescrived medication, antibiotics. It will take a while for them to become effective. So you can just wait it out. If you do go back to the doctor, they may be wary of putting you on stronger painkillers. Generally they don't like doing that unless you are almost dying.

Sounds painful though, get well soon.

The pills run out in 4 days time, so when that happens, I def will. Thing is I'm afraid they will admit me to hospital

Ok, I often work in a pharmacy, I'm aware of those drugs you've mentioned above.

Augmentin-DUO = Anti-Bio .. Is it in liquid or tablet, just out of curiosity? and what MG are you on?

    Distalgesic = Pain killer

The Augmentin is in Tablet Form. MG?

I had a uniary tract infection that did exactly that to me during my 3rd year exams (shocked I passed, couldn't sit comfortably on the chair during em!)

I need to 2 courses of antibiotics to clear it up and I had the blader of a small pigion for a while after.

One of the more worrying symtoms was my seamen turning a dodgy yellow, going very lumpy and then worst of all it ended up being full of blood. I had put off going to the doc so it was my own fault.

I went for an ultrasound of the testical as well to be 100% sure there wasnt a more dodgy cause for the blood etc. Its not pleasant "knocking one out" to check if there is still blood in it...

If your worried def go back to the doc and dont be a muppet like me putting it off.

You may have an infection such as epididymitis which is a swelling of the tube that goes to the testicles. It may be caused by infection from an STD like chlamydia which is apparently more common these days. Antibiotics and bed rest should clear that up within a few days.

It could also be a twisted testicle though, in which case it is vital that it be sorted out as quickly as possible. I won't lie to you, this does involve an operation on the scrotum to untwist the testicle. It would be an operation under general anaesthetic. It would be painful aftwards, and you would be in hospital for a few days and would require morphine to dull the pain afterwards. It certainly would not be pleasant but it is preferable of course to having to lose a testicle if it is left untreated.

If the pain is that bad that you can barely walk I would get a second opinion immediately.

Based on what you know about your own sexual activity over the last week or two you will maybe be able to guess which it is more likely to be, but I would still get it checked out again right away if the pain or swelling is not getting any better.

I'm not a doctor by the way, but I have had experience in this area.

you probably need stronger painkillers. I was on augmentin dou before and i thought i was crap. I needed IV painkillers, which will involve a hospital stay. Augmentin Duo is pretty much the strongest thing they can prescribe you for this without admitting you to hospital. Go back to A&E and tell them your story

I am taking 32.5 mg Dextropropoxyphene Hydrochloride BP And 325 mg Paracetamol.

Theres no way I am going to stay overnight in a hospital, I had a very bad experience in the past and got really depressed afterwards.

I know from experience that 'Distalgesic is a ****ing disaster.

Poke the left ball with a needle - to let the built up fluid out.

sounds like a text book case of twisted chestnuts to me...i have bad news for you my man..you're going to have to go back to the doc, where he'll un-twist them
Happend to a friend of mine years back...he had to get an opperation to un-twist them....the blood is getting clogged in your hairy sack, hence the swelling and soreness...have you tried wacking one off?

Dr. Paco suggests you seek medical attention again. Preferably with another doctor. The symptoms you list sound exactly like what other members are saying of the "twisted testicle" or more properly called Testicular Torsion.

Dr. Paco has a friend who's 17 year old son just experienced this last week. If this is the case, as your symptoms seem highly similar (severe stomach pain, testicle pain and swelling, inability to move) seek medical attention quickly. Doctors will use surgery to correct this problem, but the longer the delay, the more damage that can be done. Also the surgery does not take long and will typically involve a one night stay.

Other possibilities could exist, but it's very important to seek medical attention to recieve a proper diagnosis. Asking questions on forums such as this will not always get the correct diagnosis as a doctor who can examine you as well as ask the right questions. And if you do not like the advise you receive, then seek additional opinions.

DGs are a pretty powerful painkiller so it would be a good idea to see your doctor again or if not see a different doctor.

Thank you for allowing me to close this thread due to the fact that medical advice does not a Personal Issues board maketh. Our charter states that quite clearly.

Go to the doctor, it is worrying that you don't want to go to hospital hence will not go to the doctor in case you have to go to hospital. You shouldn't be worried about going to hospital because they, funnily enough, try to fix your medical problem. Money and time off work must be put in second place to protecting your family jewels.
