    Anyone seen this?

Note that you need a Napster To Go-compatible player, Windows XP and Windows Media Player 10 (iow you get secure .wma files, and the small print says
'It is necessary to maintain a Napster subscription in order to continue access to songs downloaded through the Napster service'.
Does that mean the .wma files you've downloaded become unusable if you don't sign up? ($14.95/month for unlimited access, hmm...) Presumably then you can't convert them to .mp3s?

To change them to mp3 you would need to record them via analog from the pc or your could burn them to cd, them re rerip them to mp3

    Have a look at www.allofmp3.com $10 for 1gb music.

Yes, it does. Bit of a scam innit?

Buying music online is one thing, even if it is 'secured' in some way. But paying a subscription in order to continue listening to said music is bollox.

Isn't Napster trying to play out the fact that you get access to as many songs you want vs Apple's .99c per song? The difference being one is a renting model and the other is purchasing.

I guess so, but I still don't like the idea of waving buy-buy to my music collection when I find something better to do with $15/month.

Bottom line: they need to come up with a better method of securing / tracking digital music.

What about just converting them to .wav and then from that to .mp3? Do wav files conserve the encryption, or are they just audio data...?

They are just audio data but I don't think there is an programs available that can convert DRM .wma files to wav.
