If your receiver is only for FTA channels, can they be the encoded ones you have to pay to view (Sky, etc.)? It's just an idea, I really don't know how an encoded channel looks like in my Lidl receiver...

Thanks for the reply Indigo but I don't think they are encoded channels as I only scanned FTA ones.

Name a few channels you can't see??

With some receivers even if you do a FTA search it still brings in some encoded channels!!!

    MTV2 pop Channe Transponder 1226, H, 27500, 2/3 Quality 82%
    RTL Television Transponder 12188, 27500,2/3 Quality 80%

    Once Plus Transponder 10847, V, 2200, 5/6
Plus a lot of Radio stations I cannot get.

As you can see I am new to this and Ijust thought if you could get the quality you would get the picture. it is not any particular channel I am after only if they were ther i like to see them.

RTL has an FEC of 3/4. That might help.

The channels you list (MTV2 POP, RTL) are on a satellite called astra1 (at 19 degrees east). You say you have your dish set up for astra2 (at 28 degrees east). If you want to watch MTV2 POP/RTL and about 350 other european channels at 19e you have to move the dish to point it to astra1. Move it 6 degrees further to hotbird (13 degrees east) and you can watch about 500 european, east european and middle eastern channels. In all there are about 28 sats receivable in Ireland, but if you only have a fixed dish you must pick one! If you had a motor, then when you select one of these channels, the dish would automatically move to the correct location. When you dont, you have to go outside with a spanner and satellite finder in your hand :-)

Thanks to everyone who replied to my post. I am finding out a bit more all the time. When I got the dish I tried it on a few different Satellites including Astra 1 on the ground before I put it up. I went for Astra 2 because there is more English language stations on that, when i was scanning I could see all these stations coming in and I was a bit disapointed when I could not get even with good quality signal.

Ah, that explains it ! If you scanned the channels while you were on the other sat positions, then the box will still list them, but as the dish is now on 28.2 (Astra 2) then any channels you've scanned from, say Astra 1, which are on the same frequency as channels on Astra 2, will indeed show a full signal strength, but will NOT be the channels you expect them to be. The FEC and S/R settings are also probably different or they are encrypted, so you won't see them.

    Thanks for the reply.
