OK, so I have this plan. I want to buy a 2.5"laptop Hard drive (>=40gb) in a small external case or buy them both seperately and put the drive in the case myself.
My question is, would all 2.5" HD's fit in any case? Or would I have to find out from the seller of the case? Presumably there has to be a standard.
My main aim is for the hard drive to not need an a/c adapter, i.e USB powered, which is why I don't want a normal external HD.
Oh and also the small size.
    Thanks

Komplett stock 2.5" enclosures, was thinking of getting a similar setup myself recently, just be careful about HD size, over 80gb requires 2 USB connections (I think)

And 2.5" hard drives are standard size, so you shouldn't have any problems on that front.

ok, thanks.. does anyone know where to get 2.5" drives online cheap?
Just a 40 gb drive is what i'm looking for so power shouldnt be too much of a problem.

Well, what would you classify as cheap? About 75 euros plus about a tenner for delivery?

If so, here. There's a Fujitsu at 73 and a Hitachi Travelstar at 75 (I've had that Travelstar model in my laptop for over a year and I'm rather happy with it). There's also a 7200rpm drive at 109.

be careful getting older/smaller capacity drives .... standard 2.5" drives are 9mm thick .. some old 2.5" drives were 12.5mm thick .... they are few and far between now though ... but check thickness before you buy an old one
