I recently got the 3 dvd fights of Gatti Vs ward, these are 2 boxers by the way, wether or not u are into boxing I would advise u to get your hands on these...... 2 of these 3 fights were voted fights of the year in their respective years.....

2 of the most determined and strong willed fighters I have ever watched, tis a shame boxing is dying off... would be nice to see a few more of these toe to toe fights.. After watching this i think i would like to give up thai and go pro boxing... but then i relaise i am old and fat and it wouldnt happen :D

    Totally agree with you Paddy,

I remember jumping up and down while watching these fights and was knackered just watching it. Just like the old days of boxing, Jake LaMotta v Robinson, Hagler v Leonard , Ali V Frasier kinda stuff
Gatti morphed into a fantastic boxer as a result of the 3 "slobberknockers" and I'm always looking for that in his fights from now on but he is just too classy at the moment and hasn't needed to put himself in that situation since the Ward fights.

Boxing dying??? Promoters, politics and poxy belts preventing the best match making!!
It's back in Ireland at least and very strong domestic fights in the UK. Pro bouts in the Stadium this Saturday.Calzage v's McGee March 18th in Belfast! And of course in Manchester Hatton v's Tszyu in June!!! Got tickets to all 3???? Hehehe!

Get your hands on the Benn v Eubanks fights (or cheaper option, watch Bravo this month).

    Paul

Round 7 of the third fight.
My favourite of all the rounds. Would those DVD's be..... oh I don't know.....copyable at all? Or is that a dirty word around here?

Paul how you managing all them fights I thought you were livining with the woman, what you do to get three passes :D

I have holyfield vs bowe trilogy, and a dvd called Fabulous 4, which is all the fights of Hagler, Hearns, Duran and Leonard... man thats an era for boxing.

I have ordered the Eubank vs BEnn fights and also some of Barreras fights, so I gonna get high on it all.

You hear Francy Barrett is fightin in the ringside as well against a fella from Peacock gym... looks like a good night. You never think about going back that way paul?

and roper ahem you might be getting a PM :) ahem

Have that Fbulous 4 DVD. F*ckin quality. One of my fave in my iccle collection. Especially Hearns knocking out Duran, out before he hits the canvas..... Have the full Leonard v Hearns on a vid (a loaner) at the moment and have watched it three times in the last two weeks. Hearns used to be a favourite of mine, but the more of Leonard I see the more I like. Fantastic chin, great feet/hand speed and a good bit of power too. Has to be one of the greatest ever.

One of the greatest fights I've ever seen was McLellan/Benn. But its a little hard to watch now knowing what it did to McLellan. It also makes it very hard to get a copy of....... know of anywhere?

I should say for the beneifts of the mods, I am ordering these off a retutable website and everything is above boards, excuse the pun :)

two fighters get into a ring and they know they have the ability to seriously damage each other if the chance arises.. fighters know this before getting in the ring and have pondered/atoned for this long before they get in the ring.

the drive within a fighter is too much.... can you name me one fighter that gave up boxing/thai/mma after he seriously injured/killed some one....

    I cant.

slightly off topic but i dont think that you can compare the safety record (or lack of) of boxing to mma - its a much safer sport

    cmb,

I believe paddyc was talking about fighter's mentallity and attitude, and not about safety records. But on the subject of it, it's way more down to the promoters than the athletes themselves IMO.

    Peace Out,

Gatti v Ward is the most explosive display of boxing I've ever seen. I got the trilogy on ebay a few weeks back. Brilliant stuff.

Theres nothing unusual about the McLellan/Benn fight except the aftermath. Nobody had a clue at the time that McLellan was in trouble, not Benn, not the referee, not McLellans corner (what was left of it, but thats another story).
Two guys went out, fought the fight of their lives and one guy lost. Unfortunately he took damage, but I've seen guys taking worse beatings then that and doing eloquent post fight interviews 5 minutes later. What makes it difficult to watch is the morbidity. I found myself looking for the punch that did it, not through some sick want, but out of curiosity. Its a strange and at times brutal game but thats part of the draw for most.

On a related point, Don King was McLellans promoter, and he (alledgedly) was the reason McLellan didn't have his cornermen that night.

Was Benn Mclennan the fight where Benn got put through the ropes in the first round? Showed real heart to pull it out from there.
There was an amazing group of fighters around then. Watson gave Eubank a boxing lesson, Twice!
I have seen some of the Benn stuff on Bravo, would like to see himself, Eubank and Watson fights, so far they are showing lesser known fights (lesser known to me).

Benn went out of the ropes, and if you look very carefully, you'll see Gary Newbon (ITV boxing presenter) standing up and pushing him back in again!

I'm just full of tasty titbits of information. :D

Eubank was unpopular(not with me though), but he was some machine. If you look back at the last 20 years I think you'd find it hard to find a better conditioned fighter IMO.

When Eubank lost his title to Collins he went to the Middle East to fight some cards for the shieks (to pay his tax bill), he then had a fight with the Light Heavy weight champion - Carl Thompson. Now that showed just how tough he was. I thought someone was going to die, the bombs both were throwing were something else. It went the distance with Eubank losing, but I still get goosebumps when I think about it. Nobody ever talks about that fight????

    Paddy,
I have built up a load of browney points and will wipe them out over the 3 fight nights. Always thinking about going back to it and am back training with my dad at the moment, but really just to get the sharpness back, not planning to fight anytime soon!! 30 in 10 days so getting a bit old for boxing!
