i have a wireless network installed in my house/offices (same building) and im having problems with using broadband on my laptop via the wireless network. the hub is connected to the bb on the first floor of the house and the laptop is located on the second floor, it produces a poor connection link with the hub and therefore very slow internet access....however i have a pc on the third floor of the house which is also connected via the wireless network and this produces a very good connection....so im thinking maybe the card im using on the laptop isnt up to scratch - its a cisco aironet 350 card and the pc is using a differant make of card altogether

would a differant network card make a differance? any feedback would be much appreciated

There may be issues around where the laptop actuallly is placed on the second floor - have you tried moving it around much and does the signal improve or deteriorate. Have you tried the laptop in any other situations like a wireless hot spot to see what sort of performance you will get from it or to try and suss what sort of performance it is actually capable of? There is no guarantee that any particular card will perform in a certain way in any particular situation.

I have a netgear WG511 in my laptop - works great in both windows and linux, gets decent enough range through a concrete wall.

i have a netgear router, which is accessed by 3 Thinkpad laptops.

Two of the laptops use intel mpci card and work great, always perfect signal.

However the other laptop uses a cisco aironet a/b/g card and cannot get an 'excellent' signal even next to the router.

I have used many orinoco classic cards in the past, they always work well.

afaik you can get wireless signal boosters (about the size of those air fresheners ) that you can plug into a nearby available socket. Either that or try moving about etc, see prev posts.
