    Hey,

We have Digiweb Satellite BB in a place in Spiddal and are trying to do MS SQL synchronisations across a VPN with a couple of offices around Ireland. For some reason the main SQL server in Galway is constantly losing connection with the others and I'm wondering has it anything to do with these erratic ping times? Are these ping times to boards.ie typical of SatelliteBB?

Those ping times are very acceptable for VSAT. Ensure that all your ODBC type connections have their timeouts increased accordingly.

    Not Suited To :

    * Web Hosting (free hosting provided)
    * Certain VPN's (enquire for info)
    * Online Gaming (due to latency)

I know they're not great for VPNs but we're not trying to achieve anything miraculous over it, plus the options for Spiddal are dialup, ISDN or Satellite :(.

Sponge Bob - You coudln't point me in the right direction for these timeouts could you? I'm not an SQL head so there's a lot of guess work going on :). It's actually in the Enterprise Manager, every now and then I'll ask the Galway server to "connect" to one of the others and it will work, other times it won't. Is there a timeout for this communication specifically?

    Thanks very much!

ODBC Control Panel usually and there is something in the MS SQL connector setup as well.

Also check the MS knowledge base and remember that the timeouts are similar (if worse) to connecting over Analogue Dial Up .

    Also check your PMs

Thanks, found it! Enterprise Manager > Options > Advanced > Login Timeout. Upped it from 4 seconds to 8 and all is good now :).

    Thanks again
