Does anyone here own one of these or have any opinions on them. They have 12x optical zoom Leica lenses which have max aperature of f/2.8 through the entire zoom range. Models include the FZ-10, FZ-3, FZ-15, FZ-20. And the FZ-4 and FZ-5 have also just been announced. I have read numerous rave reviews about all of these, they do seem to be the best available in the mid-price prosumer/ultra zoom class. I believe they are ahead of the competition from the "big five" camera manufacturers (Canon, Nikon, Minolta, Pentax, Olympus) plus Sony, Fuji etc.

The thing is though that the competition have yet to release their new models. Both Kodak and Minolta, the 2 market leaders in the ultra-zoom section, are soon to upgrade their old models (Kodak DX7590 and Konica Minolta Z3).

So maybe wait a few weeks to see what's going to happen as the PAnasonic has only been out a few days.

In my opinion you'd be better off buying a Canon300D or Nikon D70

the price wouldn't be that much higher but the opportunity to expand would always be there and the sensors on both the dSLRs are bigger and better quaity than the Panasonics
