    I was told as a child that Spring was February, March and April. I had also heard the Vernal Equinox described as first day of Spring. That's March 21st.

    Dictionary.com defines it as The season of the year, occurring between winter and summer, during which the weather becomes warmer and plants revive, extending in the Northern Hemisphere from the vernal equinox to the summer solstice and popularly considered to comprise March, April, and May.

    BTW, the Summer Solstice is June 21st.

    Feb 1st -> April 30th

    Official spring. But the birds and plants where I am seem to think it started in early January this year...

    February 1st is right, which is the way I think of it. It runs for February, March and April. You can also start it from the Vernal Equinox.

    February in theory in the Northern Hemisphere, though our weather acts more like it's a month behind - August and September usually being two of the warmest months when they are in theory the end of Summer and start of Autumn, and January and February being the two coldest months, when in theory they should be the end of winter and start of Spring.
