NTL Decoder differences

    Hi guys,

I got NTL Digital on January 15 with a PACE decoder, one scart socket on the back, so I can't hook it up to my home cinema setup properly.

My Brother in law, ordered and got his install last week, he got a really small decoder box with two scarts and a digital output.

Would NTL allow me to have the same box, or does mine have to have a problem before they'll do anything?

    Thanks
    Howard

No I've not asked them, I'm just wondering if anyone else has had to do it and what their experience was.

    Thanks

    Tony's not a mod here :D

I am though-thread moved and duplicate one removed.

On the point-Tell them that you need the digibox with two scarts that your brother in law got as your main interest in digital was the home cinema sound.

Tell them that if they dont look after you, you will have no choice but to move to sky digital otherwise.

Pretend that you have excelent UTV and CH4 through an aerial if they bring that old chess nut up.

Of course you have no intention of moving to sky but threaten them with it and that should get you results.

By the way there are several ways of getting sound to an amp.
Does the box have any other audio sockets at the back like optical or co-axial?

    Or even phono sockets?

You could also get a scart to four scart in peats either if all else fails.

    Hope that helps.

When I ordered my last install I told them I needed a box with RF out and 2 Scart sockets and that's what I got - one scart, what use is that to anybody with a modern setup?

Ask them and they should swap it for you but with NTL you never know, it really seems to depend which person you get through to and what mood they're in that day. I saw the new small box described in another thread here - it has optical out and all, sounds sweet.

    Hi Guys,

Thanks for the help on this, I'm really peeved my brother in law doesn't even have a decent amp or set-up at all, yet here I am, kinda all dressed up and no where to go. Like having a Porcshe with a Skoda Engine.

I'll give them a call and see what I can do, it would be a shame if the box I have developed a fault and needed to be replaced.

    Cheers

Well what a pain, they won't swap it unless it has a fault. Kinda determines my next course of action doesn't it.

    Cheers

Keep calling them. I have ntl broadband and i know for a fact that it really depends on the person you get in touch with. 50% of them will try fob you off and they sound as if
    A) They're not interested in the job at all and couldn't be arsed helping you
    B) They really don't want to be in that job and take it out on the customer with intentional non-helpfulness.
    C) They just feel like being a pain in the rectal passage.

However occasionally you get through to some really helpful people who will literally bend over backwards to get customer satisfaction. Point being? Keep calling them, if ya get no help from Helpline Person X, then call again to get in touch with Helpline Person Y.

Hope ya get this sorted man.
