I got 2 FTA UK cards when I was over in the UK 2 years ago. I have used ever since and I gave the other to my dad who used it for 6 months but then returned to sky for the football.

Recently I gave the card to my sister but when I put she tried to use it, ITV & CH4 & Five are no longer decrypted!

Does the card need to be in a digi box to keep live and is there anyway I can resurrect the card??

just leave it in the digibox overnight or possibly longer with the box on a channel.
It just missed a random activation signal.
It needs them every now and then to keep active.
