thought that wa a bit meh really, it didn't really clear up as much as i'd have liked, anubiss ascension was kinda glossed over really quickly and the ending was very anticlimactic, in fact there was very little tension at all in this episode imo

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 19,080 ✭✭✭✭Random

    This episode was great, imo.

They took it from another angle. They left the action behind for one episode and focused more on the actors and their reactions.

I'm glad Pete is gone, he annoyed the hell outta me.

Jack in bed with a woman :O ... O'Neill's "human" side?

O'Neill and Carter, bit odd.... but nice and awkward throughout without being a dam soap.

Jackson, Oma, Anubis.... brilliant stuff, Who'd have thought that guy was Anubis? I didn't until Danial did...

Selmac/Jacob gone? Mixed feelings on that one, he did annoy me slightly though...

Oma/Anubis "fight"... she killed both of them together, this way she couldn't be punished but also made up for her mistakes at the same time? Or did I read it wrong?

The fishing scene at the end... wonderful stuff... nice simple ending :)

Far as I can tell, she didn't kill them both, but what she did do is fight with him.

    Sounds strange doesn't it.

What i mean by that is what anubis said, "You cant win".
In other words, fighting would be pointless as there could never be a winner. But oma did fight and that means she's stuck fighting anubis forever... or until they decide to write him back in :D

I think it was all alright episode, nothing special. It was nice to see a character die off though(I know I might be hated for that), because it makes the show a lot more believably for me.

Did anyone else recognise the whole restruant place as Der Waffle Hous from 'Dead Like me'. Daniel even mentions waffles.

At least three Stargate actors appeared on that show (Apophis, The dead feamale doc, and Maybourne) - so its kinda funny to have a whole set making a guest apperance.

This was a nice breather between two 2-parters. As ciaranfo said it was a character piece - we got to see how they reacted to their situations more than their normal quips will allow us. And everyone was in character:

    * Daniel - Loved his stuff. Finally finding out why he returned in "Fallen". It never really did make sense why Anubis was able to descend and it's good to see that the Ancients aren't infallible, as proved by the well intentioned Oma Desala (I liked the reference to Kheb from S3's "Maternal Instinct"). And I never copped on that it was Anubis sitting there - it's fun to se the Goa'uld still wants to gloat, he just does it fashionably via transcendental newspapers :D

    * Teal'c - Finally gets to see his dream but he still can't rest, ever afraid that his plans will become undone (as they nearly do). Interesting to see where his loyalties will lie - assume the seat leading the Jaffa or stick with SG-1?

    * Carter - Ahhh... I've known for months now (literally) that "Threads" would deal with the Sam/Jack 'ship and so it did. Always felt it was clear that Pete was a substitute and I don't think we were ever meant to feel otherwise. I don't have to like it but it's not inconsistent with what's been nodded at heavily since S4's "Divide and Conquer" (and obliquely nodded to in S1's "There But For The Grace of God"). Indeed Sam's never been all that happy, a loneliness that was made very clear in S7's "Grace". This episode was a tough ordeal for her - Jacob and Pete - and it'll be interesting to see how it progresses.

    * Jack - Loved the way he had no doubt that Danny would come back. I mean Daniel's died an awful number of times (anyone counted?) and his faith in his friend was a great nod to their friendship. Now as to his feelings for Carter... I'm a bit more ambivalent. Carter liking Jack, sure. Jack liking Carter - never really felt it so much and it could be just a bit down to the chemistry (or lack thereof) between the actors, who work better as comrades. Sure the Zatac in "Divide and Conquer" claimed it was otherwise but still. And the nod to retirement could be how RDA plans to get out of appearing much in S9. That or a civilian leadership which, as mentioned, Weir did briefly.

    * Jacob Carter - Wahhh! Poor guy! I had no idea that was going to happen! :( Janet last year, Jacob this - meanies!

"Threads", as the title said, wove a number of threads. It left me with a load of questions/thoughts:

    * How did Daniel get back? Did he ascend and return to earth because he knew Oma was taking on Anubis? If so, does he remember anything - the line "it's a long story" suggests he does. Why was this allowed if so?

    * What's happened to Anubis and Oma Desala? Anubis can't be killed but he can be contained. When they both became a ball of light, I'm assuming they went up to one of those higher planes Anubs/DinerMan mentioned and left behind the woes of the galaxy (after all the coffee shop was somewhere in between). Will he be back? Can he destroy Oma?

    * Wasn't it a shame that the big Jaffa vs Anubis' army took place off screen? I know it's a budgetary reason but still... And where do the Jaffa stand? Are the Goa'uld finished? With Anubis' distracted indefinetely, and with the remainder of Baal's forces decimated, who can stop them?

    * Will Teal'c take up leadership of the Jaffa or remain with SG-1? Will the Jaffa tribes fight?

    * Will Jack retire to be with Sam (meh)?

    * Got to compliment the fishing scene at the end. It was a nice nod to us fans. I can't remember when Jack first asked Carter fishing but it's about time that she accepted and good that they all showed.

I'd have rated this episode higher than "good" if it hadn't been for the rushed feeling to the ending - Daniel reappearing so quickly, Anubis' force decimated so fast, and so forth. Sure it made sense but still too much offscreen. As it was it was a nice change of pace because next week - from Sky's teaser - looks like a nice big one.

Crazy how they just throw spoilers at the end of shows. Have they no fúcking respect?

I was sorta able to see how the Moebius episode comes into it when I thought Anubis was going to destroy the galaxy, but now?

I'm more confused than ever :(

    I hate you boards.

IMO thought it was only ok. Too many plot endings too fast.
Com'on they should have hyped the Annubis thing a bit more and wheres Baul gone ta????
Jaffa rebels - yeah - has to be a battle with someone soon, but who?
JOC beds another one (go on my son) think he'll retire so he can be with Carter?
Spoilers at the end are a killer alright.

    Me waits til next week...............................................

I really thought that an episode named "threads" would actually tie up some but instead there was no resolution to most of the themes. Jack and Carter are back where they were for the last 5 years, Tealcs big decision was dropped and Anubis is still there in the ether waiting for the next time the writers need a big baddie, I mean how many times are they going to have him vanquished only to return in some way shape or form - it's getting boring.

Did anyone else notice that carter didn't seem in the least bit upset about daniel dying or that the Ancients are starting to be displayed in an unfavourable light (our galaxy as their plaything cos of us being so insignificant, and their punishment to Oma killing millions to prove a point)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,548 ✭✭✭Draupnir

    2 things I thought were SG-1 genius:

    1. As youve all said already, the fishing scene, bout time she went fishing with Jack!

    2. The end when Daniel is in Jacks office and jack walks over to the door. The comedy moment when he hops back, I thought that was brilliant. Pissed myself laughing. And the flag toga was pretty funny too.

I my self thought that this was a fantastic ep. Instead of big bugit sfx, we got a purely character driven ep. Some nice little jokes in it too. Like the bit where Jackson is asking Oma about why he asked her to send him back to a planet naked. And her saying you asked me too.. well all but the naked part with an evil smile on her face.

I really didn't have a clue about Jacob. I really liked the character and will miss him.

I have read on gateworld that Ben Bower (spell)will be in S9. So does that mean that jack is retiring to be with sam? who knows. They have left so much open in it now.

The whole Anubis in the cafe bit was done so well. I had no idea that it was him. Till that final point where Danny boy figurs it out as well. Then the Jolly little fatman just seemed to look soooooooo more evil than he did in the other Diner bits.

To tell the truth I am more confused about some stuff than I was before, which means their going to have one hell of a Fanile to deal with some of the stuff. I my-self cant wait for the next two Tuesdays :(

There were 2 moments in the episode that I will remember fondly:
    1. Daniel figuring out that he was talking to Anubis. (I don't think anyone saw that coming until the moment it actually happened, so everyone realised simultaneously - genius.)
    2. Ba'al asking Anubis "Who's grand scheme?", already knowing the answer and with a raised eyebrow suggesting he was thinking "Alright, you are TOTALLY nuts."

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,905 ✭✭✭User45701

Baal is a great gouauld but i would much rather have apophis or sokar as being subserviant to anubis still tho baal dopes a GREAT job

Really loved the episode. Thought there were some nice comedy moments in it. I have to ask though. What happened to sg:a? Is it just going to be an episode behind sg1, or was this weeks episode shown at another time?

Going to be 1 episode behind. That's ok though because it allows them to show the 2-part finale, "The Seige", in one sitting.

eheh.... Just a side note, I was just watching a cartoon called Megas XLR there when the lead character "Coop" Sounded really fimilure to me. So I IMDB the Voice acter. Sure enough it is the Acter David DeLuise who plays "Pete" :)

Sorry not a very good or related fact, just thought it was interesting. As before I nerver noticed it. But this ep of SG1 seemed to have Pete a lot more lose and easy going.

One thing that's bothered me, and maybe I'm missing something: Carter comments how Selmac has enabled her to have four more years with her father that she wouldn't have. The four years is repeated numerous times - huh? Jacob melded with Selmac in "The Tok'ra", a Season 2 2-parter. This is Season 8 - that's six years ago, not four. And, as "Citizen Joe" clearly showed, each season takes place over a year. Am I missing something or did the writers screw up?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,905 ✭✭✭User45701

they screwed up mabe they didnt count the last year and a half since they havent seen the tokra since the fall of the tokra tarai jaffa allience

i am interestewd to see how much the tokra lare pissed off think about it theve been around for 1000s of years ok and then earth comer along and they become more powerfull than them and now the free jaffa armys have just appeared in the last year or so and they are now more powerfull than the tokra aswell.

I think that the tokra broke there beliefs and used the cercoughagus (lol i dont know how to spell it) i blieve they used it on Hasheria without the concials and jacobs knowlage could lead to a new story line

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,673 ✭✭✭✭senordingdong

That was six years ago...but Jacob said that Selmac started to die four years ago.
To prevent the two of them dying together, Selmac was supposed to let himself go before the illlness got realy bad but Jacob asked Selmac to stay as long as possible because he felt Selmac would be needed (to translate the writtings at Tak'ara seemingly) but that in turn has doomed them both.

I'd like to know why so many people didn't realise it was Anubis. I realised it was him the second he said that he operates outside the system. Meh.

I just assumed he meant he was a little bit of rogue, like Oma Desala. SG-1 isn't the type of show that generally pulls these tricks. If I had been watching "Alias" , "Lost", or "24", I reckon I'd have been expecting it more. Still I'm kinda glad I didn't - more fun that way...

Im after watching the episode and I have to say that I was very impressed with it.
The episode did everything good television should. It stirred emotions. When Jacob died I had tears in my eyes, as I will miss his character, and then when Danial returned I had tears in my eyes from laughing.
I loved the whole diner setting, somewhat similar to parts of Farscape.
I think my jaw nearly dropped when Danial realised it was Anibus, like Ixoy said Stargate never really used twists like that.

On a side note, David Hewlett who plays Rodney in Atlantis is credited as appearing in the next episode of SG1. Will the episodes of SG1 and Atlantis be connected?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 88 ✭✭Seed

Yeah, overall I was really impressed with this episode. I mean, there weren't any big battles or huge explosions or anything. Yet it remained vastly entertaining. Just goes to show that you can't say that they rely on special effects.

No clue. McKay is brilliant so it'd be cool to see him in SG1. Although they better have a good reason.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,673 ✭✭✭✭senordingdong

Will the episodes of SG1 and Atlantis be connected?

I can't seem to find the spoiler tags anywhere so I'm just gonna put it in huge letters.
Both shows cross over at the end.
After 'Letters from Pegasus' which we were supposed to see last week, Sg-1 go looking for a ZPM.
But because Sky One are ****, we're now an episode behind in that we will watch Sg-1 go looking for the ZPM, then we'll watch Atalntis, and see them asking Sg-1 to get them a ZPM.

-- Edited by ixoy. Spoiler takes go
dum de do my spoilers in here [ /spoiler] - with no spaces in the brackets. Had to cross my eyes to make sure I didn't read any of this...

Had to cross my eyes to make sure I didn't read any of this...

My most humblest and sincere apologies.

Anyway to those who know about what I have typed under the above spoiler tags, I would seriously suggest taping this weeks episode of Sg-1, then watch it after Atlantis. For chronology's sake.

In fact, I think that applies to anybody that's relying on Sky One for their fix.

On another note, I really liked 'Threads'. Just one flaw though, even though they made it as an hour and a half episode, I still feel that it fell victim to the usual flaw of Sg-1, the ending was too rushed.
