How can the Catholic Church get away with Homophobia, discrimination against women and anti-contraceptive rules?

How are women, gays and people who use contraceptives anti-religious.
If it weren't a religion, it would be illegal by now.
why can't there be women priests, bishops, Cardinals and Popes?
    why is being gay sinful?
why can't people use contraceptives, are eggs and sperm littlt children?

I really cannot comprehend this but I am sure there is a perfectly logical answer?

i am sure someone will correct me , but here is my best from what i can remember:

    no women priests:
because all the Apostles were men

    no gays:
that one it the bible ... "that man should not lie down with man"

    no contraceptive:
sex is only allowed for the purpose of having children..or at least that has to be a possibility.....

(note: not expressing a view one way or another here , just trying to explain what i remember as the churches reasons).

I'm sure it is, but the Church has made changes before, why can't it do so now?

    because it doesnt want to?
why should it be forced to change its beliefs for others?

The Catholic Church and the teachings you make reference to, are thriving in Africa, South America and some parts of Aisa.

I believe the attitude of the Church Hierarchy is that why should be change these teachings because Western society doesn't like them - they are accepted everywhere else.

I can understand the other bits but where do they get the "sex is only for procreation?"

Methinks if God made sex enjoyable, He wouldn't be suprised people enjoyed it.

true, at times it seems the church is surprised at some things in nature.

This post is repeated in the thread on "prejudices" in the Catholic Church.
