I've been looking at www.guitarbargains.com recently for a new guitar. The prices are really good. In fact, they're far too good. What's the deal with them? Scammers?

Edit: Just checked again. Their parent company, A Pips Music, is on the Brian Moore distributor list. Googles a pips music. The first result is about Boss suing A Pips Music...

problem is you need to play before you buy with instruments- little things like intonation , tone, playability, comfort , weight, which can vary from each instrument no matter if its a certain make - you cant go into music maker and play a tele, decide you like it and go and buy one online, unfortunately it doesn't work like that unless you are very lucky,

    in my humble opinion.

Yes, we all know that. It's been discussed at length many times before. This topic is whether this particular online retailer is trust worthy and legitimate.

Not yet. I'm just looking at the prices for certain guitars.

    I'm torn between a ME-50 and a RG1570 Prestige or a GT-8 and a SZ520QM.

How many times? I. Can't. Afford. It.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 11,848 ✭✭✭✭Doctor J

If you can get a GT-8 and a SZ520QM you can afford the Prestige :p

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 23,363 Mod ✭✭✭✭feylya

Not if I want to keep any sort of decent sound with the effects I can't. I cannot and will not live without an effects box of some description because I cannot get a nice distortion from my amp.

well if you really want effects then definitely don't settle for the me50 is you can afford the GT8, that would be just plain stupidity:D!

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 23,363 Mod ✭✭✭✭feylya

    I KNOW!!!

But I'm trying to justify a pedal that costs €450

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,089 ✭✭✭D!ve^Bomb!

but it's a gt8!! you'll never have to buy another pedal,, well maybe a wah pedal.. you wouldn't even get 4 single pedals in ireland for 450, and you'll be getting everything you need!

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 23,363 Mod ✭✭✭✭feylya

I know, I know. Spent the last couple of hours debating multi effects and effects in general with my guitar teacher.

I trust he smacked you about for your unfathomable lust for soiling good tone? ;)

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 23,363 Mod ✭✭✭✭feylya

No but he nearly smacked me for mentioning importing guitars from Japan...

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 11,848 ✭✭✭✭Doctor J

Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha yes, that'd do it :D

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 23,363 Mod ✭✭✭✭feylya

What can I say, I've a knack for pissing off people with guitars :D

    He's selling the ME-50 for €300, which isn't bad but he's selling the GT-6 for €500+ :o

Dude, if you can't get good distortion tone from your amp, how on earth will effects help you? You should save some money for a good amp. Well, imo. :)

    Bingo!

As you guys have pointed out, any gigs I'm going be playing in the near future, I probbaly won't be using my own amp. Why not have all my tones set up in one little box? It's working out perfectly at the moment.
