DVD sound problem

When i play dvd's in my pc the sound comes on for the title menu and then goes when the film starts. Any help folks?:)

does it happen on all dvds?

in your dvd player check what output is selceted.
many modern soundcards are capabaple of spdif / optical through the same port as the line out.
make sure its set to the right type of output and the right type of speakers, 5.1 might not be out put properly on 2ch speakers.

if its just one or two dvds, do they ahve dts audio?
is your dvd player trying to ouptu the dts when you dont have a decoder for it?
