Can anyone confirm how many specials were released on dvd? Someone I know bought the boxset (series 1-8) and now wants to get all the specials. I checked play and it looks like there are 16.....

18 specials (this is all IIRC but AFAIK, IRC). One every year from 1981 to 1993 (except 1984) which makes 12. Three in 1996 (sold seperately or together) and one each year from 2001 to 2003, whch is 18 all told. The first three (Christmas Crackers, Diamonds Are For Heather & Thicker Than Water) were only thirty minutes long though and your friend already has those three as they're on the season discs even though two of them weren't part of the seasons per se. If he gets the 1996 specials in one box and the 2001-2003 specials in one box he's got 11 purchases to make rather than 15, though with the BOGOF promotion it's just about cheaper to get them on their own.

He'll be mising one from the promo as Rodney Come Home isn't out till next Monday. 'Twas on the telly last week though.

Ask me about the 10-minute special done for Comic Relief in 1997:). Never saw it, don't know anything about it and don't know if it's available in any format or as an extra on any disc.

I've been meaning to pick up the box set at some stage (seven seasons for under 100 is rather nice) but I'm restraining myself for now. I'll pick up some of the specials after that and maybe the lot over time (I'll pick up my two favourites (Mother Nature's Son & The Frog's Legacy first after I eventually get the seasons though). With the current promo they're unlikely to be cheaper (or much cheaper) at any point (ten euros (ish) each from Play) so for under 150 euros for the lot, now's probably quite a good time for
your mate to get them. My selected next burfday present is already allocated elsewhere so I suppose there's always Christmas. Or I could just buy the shagging thing.
