Hey, I need a bit of specific info on mole removal. It's on my face and is skin tone but is rasied. It's roughly 4mm in diametre. I'm wondering what my options are here, or if anyone else has had a raised mole removed. Does it require surgery or laser removal? Does it leave scaring? Are places like cosmeticsurgery.ie any good?

Sorry about asking here but I can't afford to go to the gp just to hear my options...

    Ring your GP.

You'll have to see your gp who'll refer you to a dermatologist. I had one removed surgically from my back. Pretty simple procedure, the doc injected the area with local anaesthetic and removed the mole with a scalpel. He said the scar would be like someone put a cigar out on my back. As it's out of sight, scarring wasn't an issue. Facial moles will probably require a more delicate removal method, but the only way to find out is to make that appointment.

Your best bet is to get in touch with your GP or a dermatologist. Does the mole need to come off or is it for cosmetic reasons? I have had quite a few moles removed but none off my face. I would suggest you research it carefully especially as it is on your face. I had plastic surgeons remove mine but, even still, as I have low elasticity in my skin I have ended up with rotten scars. So chat to your GP and see what they recommend.

this is not a medical forum and there is nobody here who can give you a qualified opinion on what exactly you should do - only your doctor can offer you professional advice like this - I suggest you go see one if you are concerned, opinions from strangers on the internet is not the way to go with regards to this.

Talk to your GP. They might know someone local who does minor surgery. I suspect some scarring is inevitable, even using the best in cosmetic surgery. At 4mm the mole is probably a lot more obvious to you than anyone else.

There was a thread here recently about moles / melanomas if you want to search.
