Can't tune in Extra BBC in Cork?

    Folks,
Recently my parents in Cork got themselves a Sky installation.. picture is crystal clear and the signal is mid-way on the signal test menu.

Like I did myself at home in Kildare.. I went to add the extra BBC stations using the 10773/H/22K/FEC5-6 trick but it reported that there was no signal found and hence never got to add anything.

I'm looking at my signal test screen now at home (Kildare) and its about 80%.. is it possible the lower signal in Cork is the cause of the problem or is it possible that the sly box is somehow preventing the addition.

The line of sight seems fine.. the dish has no obvious obstruction that I can recall.

The box I have is a Panasonic, the "problem" box is a white Pace.

Did you have RTE TV in Cork?

Have all stations in the family pack including RTE.. all display fine.

Even had the movies and sports for the first month as part of the free installation.. the only issue is trying to tune in the non-EPG FTA stations

Did you try to add anything else?
    Did you try a re-boot?
    Can't figure that one?

I also tried the range for BBC radio, which again is not default visible on the Irish EPG but is FTA.. again nothing got tuned in.

I also powered it off, waited a minute and plugged in again.. still no luck tuning in the extra stations.. it really seems like the feature is disabled.. thats the part thats worrying me. Either that or the 50% signal is somehow not conducive to or just preventing tuning in extra stations.

Given that someone else said that they have tuned in the stations in Cork.. thens it not a sat footprint or anything like that... its either the box or signal and at this stage, not having found any proof that the boxes are being restricted, I'm assuming its the signal.

Sounds like dodgy dish alignment to me ?

Either that or a cheakskate installer using a 43cm (England/Wales) Instead of a 60cm dish

Does BBC 2NI (Ch 170) work? It's on the same frequency as BBC Three, etc...

What is the signal quality (not strength) like in the signal test menu? It's possible the LNB skew is set incorrectly (but not likely).

If you can see the BBC channels on 169 and 170 and you're not having problems with any other channels, it sounds like you might be making some small error in the procedure.

Try it again, but double-check your frequencies, the polarisation (Vertical or Horizontal) and the symbol rate and FEC.

Maybe try some other frequencies too, just to make sure that everything is okay.

    Fokks,
I tried to tune in stations again this weekend when I was visiting the folks.. worked first go this time. Did exactly the same steps as before (have the 10773/h/22k/5/6 details saved as a text on my mobile.. the same message I consulted (many times) before when it was failing.

    Its a weird one indeed

Glad to hear it Cormac !

There are loads of things on BBC3 and BBC4 worth tuning in for.
