if your trying to make wavs then you need to go into a music shop and buy a lead that has 2 headphone jacks on it....one end goes from the line out of the MD player and the other end in to youre pcs line in.

NetMD is best way to go, using something like sony's SonicStage s/w.

If that's not an option then jack-to-jack and encode it in wav using the native sound recorder in windows, or there's program's available to encode it to mp3. Note that you need to have a line-in on your sound card for this to work...

I'm 99% sure NetMD only works one way. PC>MD not MD>PC

If you get a soundblaster live card (with front bay) it has optical input on it. If you're really lucky you might be able to find a minidisk drive for a PC. Sony released them for about three months a couple of years ago then scrapped them. Shame really, had perfect potential.

i can hear the audio coming from the md, but when i try to record it, using microsoft sound recorder, i just get a scratchy sound.

is there some special software i need?

the newer hi-mds works both ways, only thing is tho, it has to be recorded in hi-md format so ud have to trnansfer from the old md to hi-md. which wouldnt be a problem cos ud be buying a new machine anyway. they'rre around €189

Google OPd2d; freeware program that will record the actual output from your soundcard direct to mp3 or wav.

Note also that you can use that program as a recorder for streaming audio such as internet radio. Although that would be considered illegal and is not condoned by this poster...

Couldnt ya download it off something-which-i-am-not-allowed-mention-and-dont-condone?

it's nothing ilegal, ie pirate music, just voice over's that have been added to minidisc.
