Ye you can but be carfull because it might be subject to some taxes when entering the country. It applies to countries outside the EU.

yes you can, but then don't you have to pay shipping and import tax? In fact. can someone clear this up for me: if i buy clothes or other stuff on the internet from the states do I pay tax?

You don't pay tax when you buy it, but it's likely to be caught by customs when it comes into the country, and they'll ask you to pay before they'll let the courier deliver your parcel.

I bought a Digital cam from the states last year 'coz it was about €90 cheaper than I could find it locally. When UPS delivered they handed me an invoice for €60 for VAT and had to receive payment before handing over the goods.
Even after shipping and VAT I still saved about €30 so happy in the end anyway.

    Also don't tell apple ;)

Years ago I was looking for some Mac software (long time ago, don't recall which). Contacted the Mac store in Dublin and Micromail. Micromail offered a lot lot cheaper. Ask the Apple store to do a better deal as Micromail had a better price. They said they wouldn't. 20 minutes later micromail rang back to tell me that the Apple store had contacted them and told them they could not under any circumstances sell the software at the original quoted price in their printed catalog (despite confirming it beforehand). The guy in micromail sounded pissed off, but not as much as me.

Ended up scrapping the mac for the project and used PC box instead.

Buy it from someone on ebay who is reputible but tell them to mark it as a gift on the customs ticket and then you wont have to pay taxes.

A couple of years ago the dollar was worh more than the euro was it not, ie $1 = €1.15 (not actual amounts just useing examples) so it would have been better to buy here. Are we not just victims of a rising economy?

Buying it abroad means if you've got difficulties with it, ie need to bring it back, it'll be a lot harder.
Although you might be able to go into an apple store in Ireland (if there are any, there used to be one somewhere near grafton street but I'm not sure if it's still there) and bring it back, but.. dunno.

Ipods have worldwide guarantees, doesn't matter when you buy them from you can service them in your home country. Same for canon, pioneer, panasonic good. Be careful with other brands though, most are local warantees

With the amount of people travelling to the US I'm sure you will find a familty friend/mate how will get it for you. I do this all the time for friends and family when I travel back from Singapore

It's not a huge amount cheaper when you take sales tax into account which isn't included in US prices. Although you can't buy from Apple's US store, if you do buy from somewhere abroad you're likely to get hit with sales tax on the way in to the country.

Are you sure it's free shipping to Ireland, and not just within the US?

Watch out for the customs taxes! They're not on books or children's clothes but they are on everything else that get's shipped in.

I ordered some clothes from an American brand, about €100 worth (not including shipping costs), it was quite a bit cheaper than at home till it arrived and UPS presented us with a bill for €40, €20 of which went on Miscellaneous! Meant that the clothes ended up being a bit more expensive. :(

i know it wont deliver to ireland cause u have to have a US address.
I have friends on the west coast of America so they said they'll get it for me then post it over and i'll still save myself a fortune!!! :D
Or if you're headin stateside or u know anyone who is ask them to get it

How do they define childrens clothes? Couldnt you get a really fat kid and say they're for him

    Then they'll apply fat tax.

One of the cool things I noticed about the apple store was that they do engravings, for free.

And I reckon, if a business set up in the states that basically received things that only ship to the states, then shipped them to you - they'd make a load of money.

If you get your iPod engraved, just be aware that it will take a bit longer to be delivered. I got mine engraved, but it held up shipping by about 2 weeks.

Afaik, children's clothes are determined by size. If you have enough money to feed your kid until he's really fat, then you've enough money to pay tax on his extra big clothes. My girlfried gets her runners **** cheap because she has small feet, so gets small, untaxed sizes. Case in point, she bought a pair of runners for €20. Same day I bought runners (of similar quality) for €120. Damn my manly feet.

Someone should make a clothes company where the kids sizes are really big, so you could get them tax free.
