Hey guys, just wanna get an opinion, I've heard bad things regarding the quality + viewing angle of the imac G5 displays, and i've looked at them briefly, wasnt too impressed. Are they really that bad? is the 20" Imac a higher quality as well as larger screen, and are apples new range of cinema displays any better? Trying to decide between the imac + mac mini, this will be used purely for design purposes. Thanks for any advice.

My sister has the 20" iMac, and the display in it is very good. The colours remain the same, which is important to her as she is studying graphic design.

Here is my advice: If you plan to get the computer and not upgrade it for 2 years or so, get the 20" iMac.

On the other hand, if you would like to be able to upgrade your computer, get the Apple 20" Cinema + Mac mini. That way, in a year or so, you can simply hook up a new Mac mini with better specs. The choice is yours. You'd also have the option of getting a full blown G5 tower that way at some point in the future, without having to buy a new display.

thanks for the info, yeh looked at one (imac) in town and screen looked fairly good to me, i think i've changed my mind, certainly the imac seems better value than the mac mini. anyone else any opinions ?

The mini and iMac are aimed at slightly different markets; the mini is lower spec and aimed more at recruiting new people to the world of Mac - i.e. switchers. The iMac is a much more powerful beast and is a lot more easily upgraded in terms of adding RAM, bluetooth & airport modules, drives and possible CPUs in the future.
