    Hi,
I had an ai file attached to an email, I saved with IE and it saved it as a pdf file. Then I saved it with leechget and it saved it as a .ai file. Why is this? Does it make a difference? I have Adobe Illustrator 10. I think the files were done with a newer version. Are they still the same files? I have no choice of what to save them as, just the filename.

    Thanks!

Have you tried saving them as both types and trying to open them with Adobe Illustrator and Acrobat reader ?

Are the two files you downloaded the same size? Did you "right-click and save-as" the .AI attachment or left-click and wait for it to open/download?
You presumably have set IE to open PDF files directly rather than save them to disk? If so, it might be being smart and converting the .AI to .PDF in order to display it.
Sounds a little implausible, but you never know.

one is an illustrator 10 file and the other is an illustrator cs file.

If I download with leechget it saves them as .ai

if I download using IE, it gives option to save as acrobat file or all files, when I choose both, it saves as a pdf.

They are the same size regardless of file type however I am able to save the same filename into same directory as they are different files.

All I'm concerned about really is, if the pdf file will have the same capabilities as the .ai file and what restrictions will be in one or the other.

    Thanks!

Well, you won't really be able to edit the PDF file the way you can edit the AI file, so I'd go with the leechget option. I presume you got this email into a webmail account?
If you want to send it to me at pickarooneyATgmail.com I'll see what it gets savec as here.

yeah I got it emailed to me.

If I choose "open with" and click illustrator, it opens with AI and it can be edited the usual way with AI so maybe they are just being associated with different programmes but are the same file. I presume they are the same file.

I wont hassle you with emails, thanks anyway:)
