Tracing missing person?

I'm trying to track someone down on behalf of a friend in another country. All I know is that the Irish lad I'm trying to find has a very unusual (possibly Viking) name, Christor Dispainneach or Despainneach. Now that spelling may not be 100% as it came from a Belgian lady. Apparently he has a flaming mop of red hair and possibly a beard (think Glen Hansard), used to be a fisherman, and could quite possibly be a crane driver now as this is what he did in Brussels.

I just don't know where to start. I've been through the crane hire companies in Dublin and no luck. Where would you start if you were trying to trace someone?

When did he go missing? Do you have a last-known address? Is the person you're searching on behalf of someone who he would have been expected to keep in touch with (i.e. can you go to the gardai with this)?

It's not so much that he is missing, rather that he returned home to Dublin from Brussels and a Belgian friend of his is trying to get in contact with him again. Lost friendship or something like that. Last known address in Dublin was 10 St Kevin's Parade, Dublin 8, but this is likely to be a couple of years old. Mobile companies are not particularly forthcoming with subscriber information yet this is not really something I would approach the Gardai about, it's definitely not that serious. I offered to help this Belgian girl without realising how futile a search like this can actually be.

Just thought on the offchance that the unusual name, the description, or the occupation might ring a bell with somebody somewhere.

you could get onto his landlord at the address he was last at and find out if he left a forwarding address.
