if i buy an amp in the us... will it work over here if i just change the plug, or would it blow the amp to have such a higher voltage goin through it?

so do i need an adapter for it?

They use 110V. We use 220V. It's quite simple really. You plug that straight into the plugs over here - BOOM!

You can buy transformers to plug the amp into but they're not the cheapest things in the world, especially 100W ones. It seems to work out cheaper to buy an amp over here if you're going for a brand new amp. What one do you have in mind?

you know i can actually... :D

im buyin a pedal too wat bout dat... would an adapter work on dat yea?a boss gt6b

Christ, I wouldn't answer this question cos of that txt talk crap.

No, the adapter won't work. Besides being the wrong shape physically, it still takes 110V and we have 220V. You can buy a suitable power supply over here though probably.

    ha
dont those pedals take a nine volt current though???
wouldnt one of the dc power supplies yyou can get work?

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 23,363 Mod ✭✭✭✭feylya

Not necessarily. Pedals like the GT-6 use large amount of current and are not always DC. You'd need to read the manual to find out which is the correct power supply to use. But the American one will not work over here without an external transformer. Not worth it tbh.

    aaah...
so its not worth it to but over in the us?
anyway. a bass worka anywhere right..?

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 23,363 Mod ✭✭✭✭feylya

Actually, looking at the GT-6B on Music123, you could save a couple hundred on prices over here, even with buying a power supply. They only cost €20 or so.

And no, basses don't work anywhere. New European directive means that the 6,5mm jacks on basses have to be replaced with 3.5mm stereo jacks ;)

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 23,363 Mod ✭✭✭✭feylya

of course, don't forget the high enough delivery fee and import tax.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,992 ✭✭✭Korvanica

whats the inport tax on it???
    shippin is only $30

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 23,363 Mod ✭✭✭✭feylya

    24.5% I think.

oh wait sure i dont need that...
my uncle is bringin it over for me with him..

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 23,363 Mod ✭✭✭✭feylya

I just did some calculating there:

GT-6 from music123.com + Shipping + Import = €437 or so (Then you have to get a power adapter)

GT-6 from Thomann + Shipping = €422 (Have to get a European - Irish power adapter though)

Well, if you miss the shipping costs and import tax, you're sorted. I suggest either getting rid of the box or damaging it a bit to make it seem old so you don't get done on the way through customs.

Unless you're making a monumental saving buying from the states, I'd recommend buying your amp from Europe. I would hazard a guess that unless an replaces the transformer you will invalidate your warranty by doing so yourself or by getting an unauthorised amp repairman to do it. For amps from Europe all you have to do is replace the power lead.

I bought an ashdown mag300 combo from music123 a few months ago without thinking about power supplys. Anyway, ashdown are actually based in england, so I gave them a ring and they sent over a replacement transformer for about €50 including shipping and I got my old man to fit it cause he's qualified and it didnt void the warranty.
