Labour for Parts?

Don't know if this is of interest to anybody but I thought it might be something that could be beneficial to both parties.

At the moment I have an Athlon XP 2800 based system on an ABIT AV7 mb and I want to upgrade to an Athlon 64 based system. Now last time I tried to swap parts I had a somewhat nasty experience which resulted in big puffs of blue smoke and several broken components. I put the pc in for repair which cost me a fortune in labour more than anything else, not something which I enjoyed paying.

So basically I'm looking for someone who would be confident in swapping over the boards, installing all the bits and getting it going to my satisfaction. In exhange you get the old bits ie the 2800 and the AV7. Both bits were bought in December so are nearly new.

If that interests anybody then get back to me, it wont be getting the parts till early next month so someone who is available then would be good. Oh and I'd rather if whoever does it has some professional experience or can provide some relevant example of their ability.

    Cheers

    Chris

Blue smoke? Never earthed? Wearing a nice big woolly jumper?Crappy PSU/mobo?

Easiest thing t-shirt,anti-static band and unplug everything . Nice open area (large table with lots of light) should be fine!

Have an old p3 and p2 at home in bits and just making sure all is working before i go tidying inside. No smoke,no cracks - nothing.Wonder what happened to you.Could have been just one of those things.Tough break man.

I'll do it. I'm living in Dublin and have my own transport. I built my own pc this time last year and have built 2 this year already and waiting on parts to be delivered for another build :D

Is your old Ram compatible with your new MB?

Hmm well it was related to plugging in a PSU that was set to the wrong voltage rating. Which is just about the most idiotic mistake its possible to make but shows you how easy it is to get it wrong. I also blow a 9800pro by moving the pc while it was on leading to the monitor cable coming out leading to a large €250 paperweight.

Which has given me an understandable aversion to doing anything to it ever again. Far as I'm concerned it could run on chicken entrails and black magic as long as I just plug it in and it gos.

I think Wizzard is going to sort it out for me but If he can't make it for any reason I'll give one of you guys a shout.

    Cheers

Nasty man. Dead sorry simple mistake but happens a few people. If you get someone to fix it make sure you get into the case yourself ask all sorts of questions and all that.Mistake made once - no need to make it again.
Good luck - let us know how it goes.

Yeah the more expensive the lesson and all that.

Everytime I turn it on these days I just wait for some funny noise or strange smell to come out if it. I can just imagine the euro's clicking round in its little electronic Judas brain about how it can cost me more and more. Its day will come, someday I'll be glaring at its broken body in some skip somewhere as it leave it broken and unloved and move on to the next electronic marvel to come along.

Annyyyway. Its good to see that the barter systems still alive and well and I'll let you know how the beast reacts to Wizzards tampering.

    Cheers
