In a rather strange move for GW they've put up PDF files of the specialist games rulebooks for free!
    http://www.specialist-games.com/
    Follow the links from there.......

This is pretty amazing, but then again, I suppose that GW are aware that nobody's going to get into any of the specialist games unless they see what it's like. I'm particularly pleased with the Necromunda rulebook, as I'm just after getting back into it and they plan on constantly updating the book with custom rules etc.
My friend's desperate to get himself a copy of the Gorkamorka rulebook, but GW seem to have erased all mention of it (I suppose seeing as it was such a blunder *gasp* You get pretty much all you'll ever need to play :o)

i forgot about gorakmorka. never even played it. Necromunda would be great to see it back. only ever had a few basic games from it. I wanted a bloody escher gang tho. Is warhammer quest up there?

Free or not, nothing beats having the real thing beside you in all its physical glory.

Lifted the epic book nigh on a year ago. The free rulebook is what got me into the game. Want to get the Mordheim one now.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 598 ✭✭✭DrummerBoy

Mordheim is a pretty special game. The same can be said for Necromunda. The thing is though to really get the best out of these games you need a solid group of people that can play the game as often as possible. Makes it all the more enjoyable.

NO problem with getting regular games: in a college club so I can get a game pretty much any time I want

You know what? I miss Necromunda. Haven't gamed in a few years and I've come over all nostalgic.

Good luck with that. Try e-bay, or you might get lucky at a car boot sale.

You could advertise on portent, but it's been very tempremental since it died.

um gorkamorka was actually a huge succcess. although they billed it as a 'new' specialist game the entire intent of the game was for it to last a year and a half to two years at most. because its a specialist game they were able to bring out extremely little for it and still keep people happy.

all the while their back catalogues of ork stuff was cleared out. bit of a coup de grace for GW but you arent supposed to know that :)

Necromunda and Mordhiem, Gorkamorka were and still are great :) They leave so many possibilities to customize and really tailor your gang and the experiences are great - perfect for a core group of gamers.

I always thought Inquisitor looked fascinating, but you absolutely need a team of regulars for that one.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,071 ✭✭✭Art_Wolf

Inquisitor is fun, everyone loves the spacemarine grabbing someone by the balls with the power glove \o/

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,111 ✭✭✭tba

I prefer the wealthy land owner who ries to use a laspistol for the first time and melts his head.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 108 ✭✭Snoogans

I always fancied a demonically possessed inquisitor that could teleport other people into solid objects or some twisted stuff like that. God dammit! I wish I could have played that, I know I'd have loved it.

Ha. Gothic. Still got my disgustingly unfair Eldar fleet. Pity the game dissapeared within a few months.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 108 ✭✭Snoogans

One look at gothic and I knew that game was doomed.

Don't think that link is working anymore

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,342 ✭✭✭Mantel

GW have a specialist games section on their website now, probably to unify things or something like that. They've also changed stuff around so linking directly to parts of their site is a pain in the ass. All the rule books and other resources are in Specialist Games>Specialist Games Resources on the site now.

Thanks for the updated link info Mantel. I had followed the links in the first post and gotten lost before I noticed the post was from 2005. I had assumed that the PDF were simply no longer available. Happily I was wrong :).

Freely downloadable full rules for the Corvis Bell skirmish level sci-fi game Infinity.

    http://www.infinitythegame.com/infinity_ENG/index.php?option=com_docman&task=doc_download&gid=74&Itemid=192

That site also has the complete army lists. You don't need to buy any rule books at all - they're hoping to make their profit on models sales, I believe.

Nice models too, and I've heard nothing but good reviews of the game.

I've played one starter game with a friend and I'm pretty excited to play more.

    Specialist Games Resources

(If I was able I'd just edit my original post but it seems too much time has passed. Unless a Mod can do it???)
