this is obviously one for the ladies here....been on dianette for a week now because i have bad acne and this is the latest thing i've been prescribed. it's also a contraceptive pill for those of you that haven't heard of it.

just wondering if anyone else here has been on it and how long was it before you started to notice an improvement? thanks.

It took about 10 months to see a marked improvement in my acne. I still get the occasional yucky big zit, but it's better overall since I started taking it.

    thanks....10 months? that's such a long time :(

  • Didn't clear up my acne, but I think there was an improvement. I recently switched brands to Yasmin and this seems to be working a bit, but I still get a few spots. My main problem is the old acne marks, it still looks like you have spots when you don't really. They take ages to fade :(

Are you certain on this? Is it that it contains a contraceptive or that you must use a contraceptive while using it (to avoid birth defects, etc.)

It appears to be an effective combined oral contraceptive in its own right.
This medicine is also an effective combined oral contraceptive. Cyproterone acetate is a progestogen derivative, and the other ingredient, ethinylestradiol, is a synthetic version of the naturally-occurring female hormone, oestrogen. The medicine works as a contraceptive by preventing the ripening and release of eggs from the ovaries, as well as increasing the thickness of the cervical mucus, which makes it more difficult for sperm to cross from the vagina into the womb, and by changing the lining of the womb so that it is less suitable for any fertilised eggs to successfully implant in.

I've been on Dianette a year now. I would agree it takes quite a few months to clear up your skin. I'd say at least 5 or 6. I still get blackheads around my T zone and the odd spot. I hardly get any anywhere else now either. It has thinned out my periods although they are still quite heavy and I do still get cramps. But I would definately call it a success. Am much happier now I'm on it, as I didn't have much luck with the antibiotics.
As regards it as a contraceptive, it works! Although I'm careful to take it every day at around the same time. I'd definately recommend it.
