I asked a question here a while back about the best bb provider for gaming and everyone said eircom but they only have 128upload that cant be enough for gaming with 2 pc's can it?

well here is what i learned so far

the eircom home plus has 8gb cap low interleaving and contention of 24/1 but only got 128 upload

esat bt have 512kb 128 upload 12gig cap and no interleaving with contention of 20/1

is esat bt really that good or are they jus like my old isp (digitrap) please please some bt ppl let me know cause their package sounds better with interleaving off better cap and upload for around the same price but i can imagine they really suck for some reason

    Esats cap is 16gb.

My friend plays with two networked computers over a single 512/128 line with no problems.

I'm on Esats 16gb package and pings are about the same as Eircom. Around 25ms to boards.ie and usually no more than 50ms when playing HL: DM.

We use esat bt /iol broadband for gaming.
We play enemy territory on two seperate machines, 2 or 3 hours a night, every night.
Works fine almost all of the time, might get an occasional laggy glitch on some servers every couple of days or so, but I can't pin that on esat.
Have it for 3 or 4 months now, it has never dropped the connection.
For the month of January, we used about 4GB upload, and about 1.5GB download, so we're within our 8GB cap.
That's pratically all gaming traffic - there's some surfing in there too (using firefox, with adblock - no bandwidth hogging banners!), but no torrents or anything like that.

Sorry, that should be 4GB download, ~2.5GB upload. Pings are usually 50-55ms to UK servers.

    Here are the facts.

Esat business (only available in roughly 40 exchanges) - 10-15 first hop ping
Eircom home dsl pacakges. 17-20ms first hop ping
Esat home dsl packages 22-25ms first hop ping
    Netsource 22-25ms first hop ping

thats good i tink ill go with esat bt cause i will b downloading torrents and the 16gb cap seems fair enough

anyway ill have it for 3 months so i can change my mind then and get eircom if it aint that good.. iv never seen less than 65ms ping to my closest hop with digiweb so i think it will be a welcome change to get 20ms ping

esat bt is cheaper and you can get 256 upload with 20/1 contention with no interleaving and a better cap so it all seems good lads i just wanted to know if the ping rates are good

im just bn carefull now after getting stung with digiweb so thanks lads

theres ~5ms differnece between eircom and esat, eircom having the lower ping.
so unless you are very picky and paranoid about the 5ms i would go for the esat package as it has twice the cap

From what ive read on this board, theres very little difference between esat and eircom and compared to my current isdn i shall be blown away with either :)

At the end of the day both eircom and esat suck balls compared to the rest of europe and the world. For example in america for what we pay they get a 4mb line as standard, better then our ****ty 512ks. In the rest of europe they are very strong lines, and they get free upgrades. For example my mates in america, all got their packages boosted from 6mb line to 11 mb absolutly free.

Here we will be lucky to get a 2mb line and it will cost you an arm and a leg.

I'm using eircom broadband over two machines and it runs perfect, good pings fast dl speeds. The dl cap is not a big problemo. What could you download that is more then 8 gigs a month? Movies? They are 700mb, only so many you can get. Get a DVD burner and your laughing.
