    Hi,

I'm currently completing my degree in Information Technology management in IT Carlow. As part of my degree I have to obtain a six month work placement in Information Technology.

I have already completed a Diploma in Computer Systems Management and also a Cert in Computer Networking and optical communications.

The operating systems I am proficient in using are Win 9x, 2000, XP ect, Red hat 9 Linux. I learned C programming in my certificate course and also visual basic. I have also completed projects in ASP and databases (MS access). This year we have been studying SQL SERVER and ORACLE in a hands on lab environment. I can install hardware such as video, sound and NIC cards etc.
I am also interested in web design.

I am just wondering if there are any companies are looking to take on a student for six months? I have to start work placement on on the 1st March. I am then back to college for three months (Sept. - Dec) to finish my degree and then I'm finished.

For more info please pm me.
    Thanks in advance

Chances are you are too late for the placements in large companies (But still worth a try never know).

Try smaller IT firms near by. You might end up getting terrible pay. Whats your CV like? Check companies for graduate positions. Companies that offer them generally have some form of student placement. Try the banks as well, they usually have big IT departments

im in the same situation, In the Comp Networking Degree. There are no placements in big companies around. Microsoft intership is 12 months so its useless. Its very hard indeed. how many in your class have got placements mada999? In our class only 2 have jobs.

ye could go see the student careers officer- get some advice. Ask your course co-ordinater to help... put the pressure on them.
Also try the grad ireland website (its for grads but theres some placements for students listed) you might get lucky! :)

Don't know where you're getting that idea from. Microsoft, Intel, Sun, AIB, IBM and millions of the other companies were all hiring students for work placement. Your problem is that you've left looking for placement until too late. Still, I think the big companies might yet have some vacancies. Give MS, Intel and the like a call and see if they'll accept CV's from students.

    Hi,

Sympathies, it is tough to get your foot in the door!!
Why centralise your search on "BIG" companies. Try the smaller companies, they will still over realy valuable experience.

Actually I've been looking for a placement since last year. Do you not think i've already called every bloody company going???? There is no problem finding helpdesk jobs, they are everywhere.

IBM have a programming placement going. Looks good.
