    Lads
We have an aerial for picking up BBC, UTV etc. The picture is gone to the dogs lately not sure if we should change the boosters, aerial or cable.

We have the old brown coaxial cable and two boosters that are about 5 years old or more.
Is there better alternatives out there these days.

Also where should the black colored booster box be? Should it be up beside the aerial or down near the TV?

I suppose what I am looking for what is the best setup for these aerials??

    Cheers

if possible the booster should be as close to the antenna as possible.

if you leave near the sea then cable/contacts may be corroded, if they arent water proofed then you may be suffering from a bit of the old H2O too.

if you are getting replacement cable then spend a bit more on the good stuff and waterproof the joints

if you want to go the whole hog some others should be able to tell you what colour coded antenna you should use to select the signals.

    yop,

Are you receiving your signals directly from NI or via a "deflector" - (probably the latter if your in Mayo)? If a "deflector" it could be an issue with the deflector system - have any neighbours had a loss of reception too?.

Also did your picture abrubtly or gradually go to the dogs?

Have any buildings been erected in the path of your signal that coincide with your loss of reception? - if yes repositioning the aerial will have to be tried.

The Booster box sits up beside your aerial
The thing that sits behind your TV is a power unit that sends power (usually 12 volts) up the cable to the booster

The normal arrangment is to have power going up the same cable the signal comes down

    It goes something like this

    Aerial --- >Booster<
    >Power unit
    >TV ('s)

You can get cheap "one piece" boosers that sit beside your TV and dont have a seperate power unit but they are pretty useless for very weak signals
