Gosh i try and keep up with computers and build quite often but didnt know IDE drives were going out of fashion...or are they? Ill be moving to America shortly and will be building a brand spanking new pc, so would i get a motherboard that has IDE and SATA (if thats even possible) or just SATA drives? thanks for the help in advance.

I'm using an IDE HDD and S-ATA HDD on same mobo, so yes, it's indeed possible :)

same here.. 4 sata ports & 2 ide's as normal. Added a 120gb ide for use along with a 250gb sata.

Ye well most motherboards have sata will also have IDE. My motherboard got 4 Sata and 2 IDE. And yes Sata id say is taking over but not rapidly. Not that much of an advantage over IDe and infact i prefer IDE i think over SATA for some reason but no problems either with SATA jsut somehow i prefer IDE, Less porblems IMO overclocking.
