    All

I've started receiving auto dialling competition calls from the UK
    The number is 0044 1616 0057
A company allegedly called "online competition services"
Its the usual crap about you have won.....etc.....etc...
Then your asked to send a stamped addressed envelope to
PO Box 1348 HD1 NXE UK
    or you can dial 1580 600 111

It dials every 30 minutes for about 6 hours

Does anyone know about this scam? How do I block the auto dialer?

    Cheers Lawdie :(

As has been seen, anyone can autodial Irish numbers from anywhere in the world.

However, the 1580 number that people were being invited to call has to terminate here in Ireland.

What I'd like to know is, what company is hosting the equipment on which those calls were to be terminated? Are they naive victims of - or willing participants in - a scam?

As well as that I was off all last week and every day some woman rang at around 12:30 and asked for "the eircom account holder" . by the time wednesday came along and i had to her that the mother doesnt come home from work till 3 for the third time, it was starting to piss me off, and i wouldnt mind but it was the same girl, daft bint.

    (At least, I hope so).

I ask all these bouncing "hello" OLO callers the same question: "what's my name?" If they don't know it (they never do) I tell them to bugger off. If they follow my question with a "what?" I hope they've seen American Pie and ask them "what's my name, bitch?"

Yeah, I know they're just doing a job. I don't care. My name isn't in the phone book for their benefit, it's for the benefit of people that know me and might want to call. Everyone else can go screw a cat.

This particular typer of call pretends its your answering service...

"You have one new message.. <yada yada call 1580....>

You don't get to speak to anyone unless you call the number

Just spoke to RegTel, there inundated with the problem, seemingly the 1580 number was obtained in unusual fashion and basically slipped through the net.

There dealing with it right now.

One other point the person I spoke to in RegTel was extremely professional and friendly
