UCD pokersoc boycott?

This message is up on the ucd pokersoc website :

This forum is currently unavailable, the reason behind this, suspicious as it may seem to our 'boycotters', the simple fact is the trial period has run out on its service (the forum). Hopefully with a little more cash from the society the forum service will be back up and running . In the meantime, suggestions are still welcome at pokersoc@yahoo.ie. Suggestions are currently being discussed by the committee.

Does anyone know what the 'boycotters' part refers to?
I'm probably being over-suspicious, but last monday's game was pretty empty, probably about 40-50 people less than usual turned up. Any ideas?

No idea. You might ask in the UCD forum!

Someone once told Ecksor to "mind his own business" on the Motors forum. Another muppet on Afterhours once told me I was "acting like I owned the place" to the great amusement of Monty the Moderator :)

People are boycotting the UCD pokersoc because they take a ridiculous cut out of each event. Every monday they had a 5 euro tournament with well over 100 players with at least one rebuy/ top up each. They have no costs as they play in astra hall on campus yet still they give out less than 900 euro every time. My guess is they take over 25% for every event they run.
When other dublin colleges approached them for an intervarsity event the amount they wanted to give in a prize fund was laughable. Thats why DIT, Trinity and other colleges have gone it alone.
As for their forum. No queries i've put up have ever gotten through the moderator and i didn't even blaspheme.

€5 x 100 people = €500 with a prize of €900. Where are they taking their 'cut' from?
Or do people buy themselves back in loads?

About 50-60% of people rebuy about once in the first hour, i'd estimate. Then at the freeze out almost all the remaining players, maybe 70 people, buy a top-up for €5 (which recently increased from 1500 to 2000 chips).

    So:
    100 x €5 = €500
    50 x €5 = €250
    70 x €5 = €350

    =€1,100

Also, last year everything seemed to be recorded on a laptop: you had to show your member's card at each buy. There's none of that this year for some reason

The funny thing is that the 'forum' that they said is unavailable is still up on their website at www.pokersoc.com/guestbook.html, just the links to it have been changed. It appears they stopped linking to it because someone's been making accusations about the committee. The usual message board stuff, but it's well out of order if committee members have been playing for free
