epson ink drain!

Bought a new epson RX425 all-in-one recently -PC World had them at €109 for a couple of days. Really pleased with the printer as qualtiy is excellent and my old stylus 850 is very partial to banding output.

However I just replaced the ink cartridges on it and noticed on the nozzle check that the magenta had a few gaps. so I decide to run a couple of cleaning cycles. Still a few gaps and so another couple of cleaning cycles. suddenly I get a low ink warning and discover now that the new cartridges just put in without printing anything are now empty. I'm stunned although relieved they are compatibles instead of overpriced originals. I know they say cleaning uses ink but so much?

On the 850, after long periods of non-use, it can need up to 8/9 clean cycles to get back into action though the quality is not as good as the new printer.

I wonder is there anywhere in Dublin that these chipped cartridges can be refilled?

They have started selling printers with ink cartridges that are not full when you buy them. Its a very clever ploy on thier part but its a pain in the arse. Look at the small print on the packaging of the printer as its supposed to say if the cartridges are not full.

generally they are about 25% full, maybe less.

its all about money saving! remember when printers all came with a cable as well as full ink cartridges!

Epson cartridges are a pain in the arse. Because of the chip, the printer stops working unless both the black and colour have ink in them and the chip never allows you to use all the ink. I opened up a cartridge that was supposed to be empty according to the software and it was still about 30% full. Saying this though, Epson cartridges are a lot cheaper than other makes.

yeh cleanings nasty..we have a C66 (i think) downstairs and we got some ink for it off ebay...and its crap...at first it doesnt work..so you keep cleaning till it comes out not bad..and your about 3/4 gone

ive got a R300 in my room now..and although the prospect of having to buy 6 cartridges as its 1 for each colour with this 1 is most upsetting..i must say ive printed a lot! so far and these are still the inks that came with it and are about 75% full on the little bars still  :D

..prob drain like buggery now :(

Yeah, I've an Epson C62 which guzzles ink everytime it cleans the heads. As for the banding/clotting, this can be down to poor ink from the 3rd party product.

The original cartridges lasted quite a but - it was the refills that emptied out before I had a chance to print anything. The stylus 850 clean cyle does not seem to use much ink as I had to run nearly a dozen clean cycles to get it back in operation after a long non-use period.

They shoulkd warn though that the clean cycle would use like 20% of the ink.

But what I really wondered when I first posted- where did all the ink go? did it evaporate or is there an ink tank inside the printer.
