After five years of humming and hawing, I've decided to get off my arse and fill out a CAO form. I quite fancy doing Politics and Philosophy at night. Just wondering - is anyone here doing the Arts Evening Modular course in UCD?

im doing politics, not in the evening
the course itself is really interesting but its difficult, im repeating first year so take it from me. do all ur essays throughout the year go to your tutorials and DO NOT FALL BEHIND in your reading!!!! best of luck

Fair play to you, well like tintinr35, I'm also doing politics but not at night, it's pretty good and interesting and 1st year gives you a fairly broad understanding of the basics of politics. My friend's Dad is doing it at night and what i know from talking to him is that the night course is rather similiar to the day course. Reading is highly important, and tutorials are vital. As for philosophy, i took it for a little while, but found it wasn't for me, it did seem very interesting but...a little unusual.

If you want to find out more about the courses and ucd-ness i'm not too sure when its on but the universities usually have a kind of expo on in the RDS where they each av stands where u can go and look up and find out about courses..from what i can remember i think its around march...

However i'd check out TCD aswell-not that i don't love ucd-but if you'r working as well i think maybe TCD might be better...as (correct me if i'm wrong here ppl) the TCD one is a bit longer and the work load is not as heavy or intense as UCD which might make it not as stressful...

    english speak me good

Hey, you should definitely go for it, I did politics (by day) and loved it! I'm also tutoring modular students this year (in a different subject) so I have a bit of an idea of how it works (only a little bit, so you should check the ucd website for the prospectus).

what I know about it is; the course is basically the same as the day course, only you do it over a longer period of time - between 4 and 8 years is typical, but four is the minimum, instead of three for day students. the great thing about it is that you get to do subjects that day students don't - you can do drama studies, history of music, women's studies, film studies (although some of them are only available in second and third year). even if you're set on politics and philosophy, you can have a taster of a few different subjects over the time you're there.
what gets confusing is choosing what courses you want to do when, as some first year courses aren't offered every year, but I would suggest you contact the admissions office for advice, or you could even make an appointment with the careers office in UCD.

check the website for the prospectus here: http://www.ucd.ie/horizons/programmes/bamod.htm and you should also try to make it to the open days on the 12th and 13th of march.

either way, I hope that helped a bit, and best of luck
