    Hi,
I need a mouse for my laptop. There are no PS2 ports on it so it has to be usb (is it commonplace these days for there to be no ps2 ports?). I was looking at optical ones. Are these generally better than the ball ones? What is the difference between say this for £3 and this for €45?

Or would it be better to go wireless?
Again, there are big price differences, this for $13 and this for what is about $38.

    Any recommendations?
    thanks.

Aside from the £3 one being fugly, I'd image that the £45 one would be more sensitive, and so a better mouse for gamers, designers, etc. If what you're working doesn't require a high level of precision, then get whatever you like.

    Hi,
thanks for that, I don't really have €30 to spend on a mouse though:(

i have the mx510, its beautiful, i dont think ill ever use another mouse again, it comes with a ps2 to usb adapter, well worth the asking price

Well I'm not a gamer or designer so I wouldn't be using it for much more than clicking links and icons etc. The touchpad will have to do for another while I suppose

I have a mx510 as well, looks great and the performance is brilliant.

I'd really recommend it, you'd never need another mouse.

Kensington Pilot Optical mouse Pro, kills mx 510 in terms of performance, with that mouse I can go down to 1.5 sensitivity with CS but with mx 510 the minimum is 8, lower than that the thing gets too slow

do you actually need such precision though? For what?

No - I don't think you need the precision as such. But quite frankly, spending €70 on a USB keyboard and mouse was one of the best things I've done for my PC. This keyboard is nice to use and pretty damn hard, while the MX700 is just fantastic. If you use your PC for work, good peripherals are worth every penny, because you'll be using them constantly.

i use this mouse with my laptop and i'm very happy with it. it's small (yet comfortable) and light for carrying around, and the cable is shorter than on a standard mouse since you're just plugging into a laptop which is just beside you

Gaming. Precision mice make a big difference in gaming (and / or image editing). TBH though, you're not going to notice any /worthwhile/ difference if you're just browsing / word processing etc.

I have an MX510, a quality mouse, but I use a crappy roller ball yoke in work and it has served me well for years.

    <edit>
that one carrotcake has is probably just the ticket for you. Otherwise your local computer shop will have something cheap and cheerful.

    Thanks for info again,

Damn, I should have bought that wireless maplin one when I had the chance, I was watching a DVD from a distance and realised that I don't have a remote, a wireless mouse would have been perfect. Any others like it for same price? Ebay? How can you tell which are better etc?

Keep an eye on eBay for mouse; I got a cordless optical logitech for 11 stg inc del last week.
Try an eBay shop called Justdeals-UK, based in Ireland :p . Mostly refurb stuff but all good feedback...
