Last Night's 250

The most important hand of the night came in the preceeding freeroll. Short stacked 5 way with 2 tickets up for grabs. I call an all-in with K,9s, was on the big blind and couldn't afford to fold. I'm facing K,J but lucky Davey hits a 9 on the flop and goes on to win a ticket.

7 hours later find myself at the final table in the 250. 6 way, antes are 8000/15000. I'm down to about 90k after 2 rounds of junk. I'm on the BB, folds around to the SB who flat calls - he has around 50k left. Normally I'd be wary of a flat call in this situation but the guy looks about 15 so I'm not too worried. I've got pocket 8's and shove the rest in. He calls in a flash and turns AJ. Hit's 2 aces and I'm down to the felt. Made my last stand with A,9s and barely able to cover the blinds but it wasn't to be as a pair of ladies took me out. It was the 8's that did the damage but when the blinds were that big I think all-in was the only move. Just checking would have been an extremely weak play.

Got €1000 for 6th but they really rubbed it in by doing a deal 5 handed for close to €5,000 each. Still think I made the right move with the 8's but it's bugging me a little because of the deal. Any opinions?

Made another €150 in the cash after so you won't catch me complaing about making €1150 on a €15 investment. God bless K,9.

Kevin Farrely, some youngster who claims to go to Trinity and the other 3 I don't know their names.

Edit: Possibly not Trinity, think he plays in those Trinners poker games. That's about all the form I have on the guy.

yeah know what ya mean Davey, similar thing happen to me (alto not in that big a game, it was the Wed €25 +rebuys Xmas bonus game) played the best poker of my life cause i was relevately shortstacked all the way thru the last 2 tables and clawed my way to 5th went out against A9unsiuted against my J8s took €300 approx aand short time later remaining 4 did a even split deal for about €1150 each. < the swines! :(:):D:(

But as the saying goes theyre the guys with chips left and if yur out u dont get a vote and they can do what they like.
Other thing is that it was getting on @ about 3.30am at that stage.

It jus feels that they were waiting to knock u out then do a deal once you're gone....oh well.

If he had pushed all in from the SB, would you have called with 88?

No, the only reason why I went all-in was because I didn't think he would call and there was 30,000 to pick up. I knew if he did call, I'd at least be a slight favourite.

I think I would have definitely called if the SB went all in and I'd 88.
If he has AK or AJo or something then you're 50/50, a bigger pair than 88 then you're screwed, Ax where x smaller than 8 you're ahead, any pair < 88 you're laughing.

Just think its a very good spot for the SB to steal blinds with A6 suited or something, knowing that you'll need a huge hand to call.
Plus with the blinds that big you have to gamble on him bluffing more regularly.

I don't think you did anything wrong, and with 88 all my chips would be in the middle asap.

yeah, what Luke said. I wouldnt hestitate top stuff them all in unless you have a strong read on your opponent for a bigger pair.

    ah-ha-haaaa... no deals davey!

i would have shoved all in too.
    unlucky but im laughing here,

...would you have accepted a deal if offered when you still had the 90k?

Yeah Mick, I would have taken it in a heartbeat. I won't do a deal if I feel there is still play in the tournament. Once it went to 8000/15000 from 5000/10000 I felt it had become unplayable.

My no deals policy still stands but with this new added clause. I used to say I'd never do a deal but as you gain more experiance you realise that in some situations you'd be an idiot not to do business.
