WEll I'm currently doing my leving cert but coming to DCU looks a distinct posability. And i was wondering if someone could fill me in on whats clubs and socities are and hwat they do and what you do. I could read the lists of them but they dont tell what they do and how they operate etc etc

For instance, I play counter strike and was sponsored so is there a counter strike club? Is there any other gmaing clubs like world of warcraft or day of defeat?
    Is there computer clubs?
I'm a big time soccer player so what would there be for that?
And also I'm a big golfer so could i join something for that?

    Any info would help thanks.

My cousin plays that. Recieved an award for best beginner in ireland, sounds like a mad sport, be better if it was contact and the frisbee had blades on it.

I don't think there's any specific ones, but there is a gaming society.
And I'm pretty sure there's a golf club aswell.

There are two CS teams in DCU. Some very good players feature on the A-team. See http://games.redbrick.dcu.ie/ for full team lists. Games soc also cater for Console gaming and run "Bring your own PC" LANs. There have also been weekly CS gaming sessions in the computer labs.

    All gooood :)

The Games Society do computer games, STOCS do board games, wargames, cardgames... Both clubs are very active

Redbrick is who you are looking for; bulletin boards, websites all things computing. They are one of the biggest societies.

DCU have a very successful soccer club. I believe they won the Collingsworth Cup last season. They also run a more casual internal league that has a large number of teams in it.
And also I'm a big golfer so could i join something for that?
There is, but I think they have become a bit inactive this year.

Some general advice - clubs go up and down, they are brilliant one year and inactive the next. It really depends on the people running them. My advice is to join several 10+ on clubs and socs day, try them all out and then stick to you favourite 3 or so for the rest of the year.

Personally I would recommend Ultimate Frisbee though I am also obliged to recommend Archery.

Hmm... easier said than done considering you have to pay €4 per club/society so joining 10+ isn't a great idea.

Have a chat to the people at the tables on clubs and socs day. The reps for the clubs will all be there and nearly all the clubs are represented on the day.
