Ok..I got myself a burner (nec 3500a) and I want to make backups of some of my dvds....

Quite new to this, so bear with me...I tried using Nero but I get a Copy protection warning...

I also tried dvd shrink someone gave me, but gave the same copy protection error....

CAn anyone point me in the direction of a good website which explains what I have to do, and maybe the best (user friendly) software I need to purchase...

    Thanks...

heres a link to a guide for dvd shrink http://www.afterdawn.com/guides/archive/dvd9_to_dvdr_with_dvd_shrink.cfm
download the newest dvd shrink from this link http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/dvd_rippers/dvd_shrink.cfm
if you have trouble backing try dvd decrypter
    http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/dvd_rippers/dvd_decrypter.cfm
and the guide to using dvd decrypter is here http://www.afterdawn.com/guides/archive/small_dvd_2_dvdr.cfm
i also have an nec 3500 and never had any problems using the above guides and software and its all freeware so a win win situation

Yeah, 2nd that. Very strange. dvd shrink is about as user friendly as it gets. It even burns for you if you have nero installed. One click rip n' burn.

ANyway, this may sound silly, but try cleaning the disc, or check for scratches. If it is scratched and unreadable, you'll want isobuster which ploughs ahead regardless (your mpeg file gets a bit messy for a few seconds, but at least you can still view it).

its not that strange, differant copy protection systems for differant studios i presume. Ive backed up many dvds in my time and come across many differant copy protection problems.

I have seen this before ---

Where I have set my dvd-rom to region 1 and the dvd to rip was region 2.
I know it brings up a "region change" box but this may cause the error.

Now I have my dvd-rom set to region 1 and my burner to 2 --

Install this App. It loads automatically with windows and anytime you put a DVD in it finds the Decryption Key and removes any issues with copy protection. I use it all the time and now Shrink never gives me a problem
